“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1. 26, 27)

Charles Darwin, a scientist of the nineteenth century, stated, in his sort of pseudo scientific daydream, that man is the result of a mysterious evolutionary process. We were born to monkeys according to his point of view. Yet, in his delusion, he didn’t manage to prove that nonsense to be true. Now, the Creator of all things states that we’re made of His image and likeness. Of course we’re only to believe in THE ONE who’s THE TRUTH and, therefore, He has never made any error and He never deceives anyone.

The original plan of the Lord was to create a being, men, who would dominate either over His power or over anything here on Earth and also over the power of darkness. At start, God gave men the authority to have power over the fish of the sea. In fact, I gather there’s a figurative meaning in that. Now, there’s a lot of water in the sea and “water” symbolises the Word of God in the Bible. So, the fish of the sea can be taken for the angels who operate in the divine Word. Men would dominate the operation of those magnificent beings then. Yet, men lost their capacity to dominate at their fall.

Men were also granted power to dominate over the birds of the skies. In the parable of the sower (Matthew 13; Mark 4; Luke 8), Jesus stated that the birds of the skies represented the devil and his demons. Men were able to have power over those “beasts” before the fall; however, men lost that authority. The bad news is that, in some cases, those who should dominate are now subjected to these forces; there are even those who get to worship them.

In that statement in which it reads that men would have the power to dominate over all reptiles, I think of the microscopic beings which, even though they’re small, when it comes to destruction they’re very powerful when in contact with our body. Adam had power to control them; to neutralise their power, to expel them and to hamper their ability to destroy all creations. Nevertheless, since he made the wrong decision, we are to take responsibility now.

The power was lost through Adam. Now, hasn’t that power been brought back onto us in the work of Salvation? What to say on the statements Jesus made to the apostles in which he said He was granting them power over all demons to expel them? (Luke 9. 1). And what did He mean when He said He was granting the seventy authority over all power of the enemy? (Luke 10. 19). And what does that statement of our Master – in Mark 16 – mean that those who believed in the Gospel would have power over all demons to expel them and if they laid their hands over the sick, they’d be healed? I believe the answer to those questions is the following: our Lord Jesus was not only giving us back the power Adam lost; He was also making it stronger! So, don’t despise His blessing!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
