“Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus (this was the Ahasuerus who reigned over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India to Ethiopia),” (Esther 1:1)
The days of Ahasuerus, king of Persia, were magnificent. His empire was one of the greatest of all times, and it came after the Babylonian one which had taken captive the children of Israel to fulfil the Word of the Lord. Today, everything that happens in the world with our contemporary fellows has one sole purpose: the fulfilment of the Word of God. Nothing happens without being foreseen by our Father. That’s why we must pay heed to what He tells us and let nothing go unnoticed. Our effective, fervent prayer avails much (James 5:16). As to the threats of our enemy, they will not prosper if we believe in God (Isaiah 54:17).
Many prophets of the Almighty were accurate in the prophecies they made about the fall of the kingdoms of Judah and of the North, as well as about the subsequent exodus of the children of Israel to Babylon. They even foresaw how long their captivity would last. So, if all mankind read the Word and believe in God, they will understand that the Lord is never caught by surprise and that His power prevails over all kingdoms. Those who consider themselves powerful happen to foolishly think that their victory was conquered by their strong arms and by their position of authority. However, nobody will ever have any power at all if they don’t receive it from Above. Queen Vashti’s fall and Esther’s ascension testify to that (Esther 1:19; 2:17).
Nothing that happens in the world today is unimportant. In fact, even the appearance of some “Hamans” (Esther 9:24) will contribute to the welfare of those who love the Lord – those who have His commandments and keep them (John 14:21) – and the present day “Mordecais” are undoubtedly the most privileged ones (Esther 10:3). The callings to join the Body of Christ, God’s operations, and also His permissions are totally dependent on us. All we have to do is to be strong and courageous.
Out of the haughtiness of their arrogance, the wicked perceive God as a God who sees everything and who acts as He sees fit. The righteous have
another kind of understanding: they know that the prosperity and the position of authority they’ve been granted are to be used to help out others either by employing them or by stretching them a hand in times of need and by practicing righteousness.
Those who belong to the people of God have plenty of reasons to live joyfully and fearlessly. Therefore, we’re happy even if we’re being persecuted. That’s why our happiness doesn’t depend on how much money we have, on our possessions or on what people say about us. We’re a people that have the power to always conquer victory; after all, we’re reigning now and we’ll keep on doing so for eternity.
So, the lessons taught by the Word of God can never be forgotten. The occurrences in the days of king Ahasuerus demonstrate that God’s children will always be assisted. So, hold your head up high because our Father will never allow any hairs of your head to fall if it’s not in accordance with His holy and perfect will (Luke 12:7).
In Christ, with love,
R. R. Soares
