Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
Hebrews 6:17
The fact that the Lord determined to let us know He is always the same shows that His immutability is of paramount importance. However, one of the greatest blows of the devil is to try to convince us that the divine will is not the same anymore and that now God has other plans for our lives. As a result, Satan robs us of the wonders which we are entitled to enjoy. He seeks to distract us from the operations of the divine power in order to destroy us.
The Lord does not want the heirs of the promise to have the same kind of life that those who do not accept His plan of salvation do, for the latter are constantly oppressed by the forces of darkness, groaning under the heavy hand of the enemy. The heirs of the Most High should remember the oath they took in the past which, let us say in passing, was unnecessary. But in order not to allow any doubts to be harbored in anyone’s heart as to God’s immutability, He confirmed it with an oath.
An heir of the promise is the one who accepts Jesus as Savior and Lord of his life, the one who gives Christ the lordship over all the things he owns and over his plans and who does the divine will; thus, every promise that in biblical times the Almighty had made to Abraham also becomes his. All God\’s servants should observe what was promised to that patriarch – and later repeated to all who believe – and with faith, claim the fulfillment of the Word.
As I said before, there was no need for God to take any oath but He did it in order to settle any doubts concerning His immutability. Every Christian should keep it in mind and stand firm in any situation, claiming, in the Name of Jesus, what belongs to him/her through the Covenant signed in His blood. He who heeds what the Bible states will learn that in Christ there is more than he needs. Indeed, in Him all spiritual blessings are available to us. Therefore, whatever you need now or might need in the future has already been given to you. You can rest assured that the faithfulness of the Lord is real and He has never failed to fulfill any of His promises!
It is our duty to seek God, who can be found in His Word. Through It, in addition to receiving the revelations of all that was done by Christ on our behalf, we learn how to take possession of what has already been given to us in Jesus. Thus, we do not need to despair any longer or make promises or pray for days on end for Him to give us what we need; after all, we already own everything. My brethren, because we know that He never changes and will always accomplish what He promised, we must be a blessing!
