And he looked, and saw a well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. A large stone   was on the well’s mouth. -   Genesis 29.2

God´s servant must be alert to what will be shown him concerning the world, but if he neglects the things presented by the Lord, he will never understand His will. In something simple, or in an informal conversation with someone, God can express His will, and in this, perhaps lies the blessing that we so much await. At all times, the Master has precious revelations to announce to us.

Jacob’s attention was drawn to the water well, a work he knew so well. Isaac, his father, had serious problems with the shepherds of Gerar, when he dug wells. He was always successful in this activity, and this caused envy among the Philistines. Out of spite or greed, they took the wells from Isaac, who dug other wells and found water. In fact, God’s servants are rewarded, because they do not quarrel with the wicked.

Upon seeing that well in the field, Jacob felt that there was something special there. When he arrived, he greeted the shepherds politely and asked them questions, showing that he was a good man. The Christian will have open doors everywhere, if he acts like the Lord. Nobody likes people who show superiority, but rather – approves the polite and good ones.

Jacob also observed three flocks of sheep, lying there. The eyes of the Lord’s servants must be attentive to what is exposed to them, because all of God’s revelations have a purpose. If He causes us to notice a person, it will be for that person’s good. It may be that we identify a problem and without ever mentioning it, we pray on their behalf. Later, we will hear that God has worked in that life. Hallelujah!

Isaac’s obedient son knew that in that place, the shepherds gave water to their animals. The logical conclusion was not important, so he arrived at the place and talked to the shepherds. What did he want? To obey God. His blessing was closer than he supposed. The Father gives directions for us to examine them. As a result, many good things happen. Follow His directions and be successful.

God showed Ezekiel a hole in the wall and then, told him: Son of man, dig into the wall (Ezekiel 8.8). Through the opening, the prophet saw the evil that the priests of his time were doing: Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the room of his idols? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land (Ezekiel 8.12). What God shows has a meaning. Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see (Luke 10.23b).

Jacob understood that in the large stone blocking the well was the secret, for the shepherds were waiting for the others to remove it, and for the same reason, Rachel arrived. In the next lesson, we will see what Jacob did. Be on the alert as to what the Most High will show you!

In Christ, with love,

Beloved Father! It will be good, if we have the vision to contemplate what You show us. There is no revelation without Your purpose. Many times, we pray and perceive nothing. Your faithfulness will always be seen, after we cry out.

From the first moment Daniel prayed, the answer was sent. The same thing happens to us, but we don't even see the details that will show us the way out. It is impossible for You to fail to answer us. Give us watchful eyes!

May we one day, glimpsing the facts subsequent to our prayer, give You praise for the details that led us to the solution! Thank You for giving us spiritual eyes to contemplate Your work. You are our Good!
