“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me.” (Psalm 17:8-9)
Being a servant of God does not mean to be free from the persecutions articulated by the enemy; yet, there is a weapon that the enemies do not have: the hiding place of the Most High. It is found in His Word, which is where we have to live so that the devil is not successful when he decides to attack us. As for the persecutions against us – although some are lethal – we must not fear them because not even one of our hair will fall to the ground if it is not the divine will (Matthew 10:28–30).
The warrior David was not free from the wickedness of some of his contemporaries because Satan was the one who was using those people. Today, those who are obedient to the Lord are not free from the hellish works either. However, it does not matter what percentage of hatred the enemy puts in the hearts of certain people because we, servants of the Almighty, are kept by Him who can prevent any dart from hitting us. Even if this hatred is the strongest that has ever been used against anyone, our God is bigger than any weapon of the empire of darkness, and nothing, absolutely nothing can cause us any harm.
Like David we have to pray the right way by getting our message across according to the Holy Word and with faith. The Bible states that no evil shall befall us and no plague will come near our dwelling (Psalm 91:10). So, what is the point of being afraid even though when people are talking about you they do it with fire coming out of their nostrils? Lay that matter into the hands of our Father and rest safely because your Keeper never sleeps (Psalm 121:4).
Standing firm in the Biblical revelation is about hiding oneself in the shadow of the Almighty. We are so near the Lord to the point of being wrapped up by His shadow, so we can be in peace. That was the psalmist’s request and for that reason, although he was in many
battles he was never wounded or mutilated. God can be with His children today the same way He was with His beloved ones back then.
Those that oppress a child of God are wicked, even if they thought had the right to do so, for if the love of our Father was in their heart it would surely prevent them from doing any wickedness to His servants. But because they are wicked, they eat and wipe their mouths and say that they did not do any wickedness (Proverbs 30:20). Nonetheless, because of their wickedness they will get the reward they deserve.
My brethren, be a child of God all the time and do not get scared by your mortal enemies. Those who raise their hands with false accusations, one day might do something worse if the Lord does not keep us. But He does keep us because He is faithful! Woe to that man by whom the offense comes! (Matthew 18:7)
In Christ, with love,
