However the Lord God of Israel chose me above all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen Judah to be the ruler. And of the house of Judah, the house of my father, and among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me king over all Israel. 1 Chronicles 28:4

The Lord’s choice must be heeded, for being God, He does not err and will never act outside of Truth. Samuel was sent to Jesse´s house. When he arrived there, he saw the sons of this man and observed that the firstborn was the most beautiful of all. However, when he commented that he would anoint him, the Most High said that He does not choose as man does (1 Samuel 16:1-13).

The prophet was flushed, but accepted the divine decision. Then, one by one, the young men passed in front of Samuel. With due caution, he examined them and when he noticed that he had not found the future king, he asked Jesse – if those were all the young men. The father replied that another son was tending the family´s sheep. At this, the prophet felt the Lord’s touch and asked to bring the young man. It was David, the chosen one!

David, the chosen one by the eyes of the All-knowing One, the Lord, was anointed by Samuel, but no one knew about it. As the days went by, the shepherd boy proved the reason for his election. David’s love for God and his people soon showed that he was the right person. Regarding this appointment, the Lord said that David should be king over Israel forever. Was He right? Yes (1 Kings 2:4)!

The Almighty has always shown that His will is better than man’s. Therefore, we must seek to know His purposes and dedicate ourselves to fulfill them, in order to be found faithful before Him. Among the sons of Jacob, Judah was chosen as the prince, from where the Savior of mankind would come. But before that day came, this tribe would rule over Israel. It was precisely David who brought peace to the whole nation by winning the wars.

There were many families in the tribe of Judah; but out of the house of Jesse would come the one who would take away all the shame of the nation. It is almost impossible to accept that, having participated in so many bloody battles, David was never wounded, while thousands died. Now, this is one of the proofs that there was something special about him. He was the king – in whom God took pleasure!

The prophet Samuel’s comment, on the day of the selection, was based on logic, since the firstborn was tall and handsome. However, David was brave, a servant of God, and ready to teach the enemy a much-deserved lesson. The Lord’s choices are made through a prism unknown to man. We must be careful not to elect a pastor, a worker, or any other person because of human attributes. The Most High is the One who chooses!

What made God be pleased with David? Surely, the young man’s love for Him. Whoever loves the Lord – has the commandments and keeps them – will always be the chosen one.

In Christ, with love,

Father! We cannot even remotely question Your choices. They will never contain mistakes, because You are perfect. You see differently than man, because You see the truth in each person's heart!

That shepherd was being trained in the midst of beasts, to lead Israel. Thus, he had to be sent to the field, in order to take care of the animals and show the lion and the bear who he was - according to Your kind heart. May we be like that too!

It doesn't matter how many will be candidates before us. If You have chosen us to accomplish Your work, no one will rob us of that mission. Thank You for giving us the lesson that nothing but Your will will happen to us. Be glorified today and always!
