But exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Hebrews 3: 13

All Christians are expected to strive not to let their hearts get corrupted, because if that happens they will be turning their backs to The Living God. That’s our duty but that’s not all the divine message is about. The Word even goes on saying that we must exhort one another daily while it’s called “Today”. That’s precisely the time mankind has to live on the face of the earth. When we do that we’ll be pleasing our God and Father.

Having our heart hardened is a massive risk we’re taking through the deceitfulness of sin; as we’re all aware that sin came into the world with Adam’s fall and, ever since, it has been inducing many people into going against the divine ruling. Sin is extremely harmful and, precisely for that reason, it mustn’t even be cherished in the least by those who are really looking forward not to spending eternity in suffering. Those people who don’t take that issue seriously disgracefully tend not to even consider that as something real.

Hardening through the deceitfulness of sin causes people to even forget their own child, the suffering they might be going through with a divorce or the shame they’ll be subjected to before their friends who will, by all means, make comments on their being unfaithful to their spouse. The worst bit is that such humiliation will never fade out. Those who fall into adultery will have eternally –the scar of their maddening and disgraceful attitude ashamedly exposed on their faces.

Deceitfulness of sin can harden our hearts concerning our rights in Christ. Some Christians will no longer pray for their healing because some time in the past, when they were urgently in need of that healing, they cried out yet they have never been answered. Well, I suppose they should – on account of their lacking an answer from The Lord – have decided to turn to The Most High in the first place in order for them to know the reason why their requests weren’t answered. I can say that the reason why, on occasion, people’s requests aren’t answered is due to some barriers they might have created themselves which keep on preventing The Lord from operating on their behalf.

Not few of the children of God have already accepted a miserable life as being the rule. They jump to the conclusion whenever they think that they won’t prosper just because their predecessors were poor. Now look! Conversion does break down a curse which has been dominating even a whole family. No servant of The Lord should ever accept a lack of resources which prevents them from living a life with dignity– after all, Jesus came so that they have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10: 10 b).

God wouldn’t be wicked to let us know about the hardening through the deceitfulness of sin only not to provide us a way out for us to make a run from such scourge. Our Father has taught us we are to exhort one another because it’s through those reprimands we can fully see what we’re missing for Him to operate on our behalf.

A Christian is expected to take that divine commandment as mandatory, a duty which will weigh upon their head. There will come a day when you and I or any other brother in Christ will most likely be accountable for someone else’s fall and their destruction due to the fact that we didn’t do what we were told in the first place. That’s the reason why we ought to live a consecrated life to God so He’ll be able to use us for His glory.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
