01/09/2012 - HAVE THE LORD ON YOUR SIDE

If it had not been the LORD who was on our side when men rose up against us…

Psalm 124:2

One of the greatest blessings we can attain is having the Lord God on our side. It is not hard to enjoy such privilege since He has already given us His Word. Considering that it is available to all of us why not use it? Those who have God on their side will never be defeated in any battle. As for us, Christians, who are born again and are fulfilling His commandments, we have much more than that: the Almighty One dwelling in us!

The psalmist speaks of the promises for the people of the Law – promises which are also addressed to us. Now we have the assurance that He indeed dwells inside of us. Therefore, there’s no reason to fear that the attempts of the devil will make us stumble; after all, our Father would never allow His children to get hurt in the traps set up by our enemy and his demons.

When the Master urged those who believed in Him to go all around the world to preach the Gospel (Mark 16:15), He assured them that He would be by their side till the end of the ages. For that to happen they had to go, cast out demons, and lay their hands on the sick in order to heal them, all in the name of the Lord. As long as they fulfilled that commandment God would be on their side. 

By the way, this is the very key for us to receive all the blessings reserved for us. Christians who do not bother to know what the divine ordinances are but after having founding them do not fulfil them, will never have the divine presence nor power from on High working on their favor. Strive to understand what the Almighty wants you to do and fulfil His will. In so doing, He shall be with you. 

What will those who do not have the Lord on their side do? When facing some evil attack they won’t be able to resist. Many children of God lead their lives recklessly as if the spiritual life was unreal. Then, when evil strikes them they despair and start acting in a way that is most pleasing to the enemy: in disagreement with the Holy Word. Yet, he who does not fulfil the divine commandments will never have the Lord by their side.

We don’t know how many men and women rose up against the people of God in the biblical times or how powerful they were but probably they were in great number because king David felt that the power of those who attacked him was greater than the power of his people. Nonetheless, even facing so many enemies, because he served the God Almighty, David and his followers witnessed how valuable it was to have Him by their side: the outcome was way better than he had imagined!

Those enemies were defeated because the Most High was with His people – and even today the same still happens because God hasn’t changed! Actually, we have the Greatest of all beings, the Creator of all things, the One who has all power in the Heavens and on earth. The Almighty is with us to grant us victory!
