Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever: To Him who alone does great wonders, for His mercy endures forever.
Psalm 136:3-4
In all the verses of Psalm 136 we find this sentence: His mercy endures forever. Without any doubt such repetition does not occur by chance. The Lord teaches us that His mercy and hope will never end and that like Himself they will last forever, which means that we will not be forsaken during our journey on Earth. Rest assured that whenever you need this divine attribute, it will be at your disposal.
We are told to praise the Lord of lords, but in order for it to happen we must become masters over our lives, over the temptations that occur to us and over the promises that God gives us, then He will truly be the Lord of lords. Once you have this understanding, you can be sure that the responsibility you have to dominate all things is great. If you do not become master of the realm surrounding you, the Lord God will not be given this beautiful title by you.
The Most High never does anything bad. The Blessed Word declares that He alone does great wonders. Unfortunately, there are those who preach that He is the author of some unpleasant things. I have heard preachers say that the Lord breaks one’s leg, kills someone’s son, causes divorce, takes some of His children to bankruptcy etc. This is not the biblical God for He alone does wonders. These people would do better if they actually believed what the Scriptures say about the Lord.
By stating that He only does wonderful things God is telling His children not to believe in the fact that He sometimes teaches us through suffering. A world-renowned preacher once said that suffering is God’s school. I really do not know where he got that notion from but I am sure that it was not from the Word because It does not back up such aberration. On the contrary: the Most High only does what is good. During His ministry on Earth Jesus never made anyone suffer. Everywhere He
went He fought evil and led people to complete deliverance of body, soul and spirit.
When He declared that those who believed in Him would do the same works He did (John 14:12), Jesus was forbidding us to curse people, to use faith to add suffering to others or allow the enemy to oppress our neighbor. The Master showed that people only do evil due to the malign influence of the devil, so He delivered all those who had been oppressed by the evil one. Some of them might have not converted, but they bore witness to that fact in their life and therefore, in the Day of Judgment, they will not be able to say that they did not understand the divine plan.
Jesus said that He set the example for us to follow His footsteps, doing what He did. As His disciple, you must do what He did.
