And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them, for they cried out to God in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him. 1 Chronicles 5: 20

When speaking of Ruben, Jacob’s eldest son, the Bible makes a warning because of his error when he sexually assaulted one of his father’s concubines. The children of God must be alert and not be led by temptations. Any committed sin is outside the body, but whoever gives himself to prostitution at its various levels sins against his own body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

A simple but disrespectful and sinful act tainted the one who was entitled to the double inheritance. This right passed to the sons of Joseph, because Reuben was not counted in the genealogy of the birthright. For that, we must understand that the things of God must be respected. See that a single act of foolishness made Ruben pay dearly. So it will be with those who fall into this horrendous and terrible sin. Mercy!

A Christian who practices fornication or adultery, even once, will lose many blessings. However, since God is forgiving and restores people’s lives, he who has fallen can return to fellowship if there is a sincere repentance in him, with true and proper confession. Why err in such way, if the Most High established the marriage? After all, nobody is committing a sin when getting married, but they honor the Lord who created such an institute.

The descendants of Reuben, along with those of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, very belligerent men, who bore shield and sword, bowed their bows, and were good men in war – made war against the Hagrites. These, although they had prominent leaders and were well trained for the battles, they did not manage to overcome the sons of Jacob. This teaches us that the Almighty helps all those who seek Him. 

Because they cried to God in the battle, the Lord heard them. Their trust in the Lord was fundamental. This record is one of the many lessons of the Most High to those who place their faith in His promises. Of one thing we can be certain: the Most High is faithful to carry out all that He promises. God will always remember our acts of righteousness, and to trust in Him is one of them.

The heavenly Father wants to help you in your daily struggles, when the enemy shows situations that seem to be unimportant, but actually were sent to disturb you and bring you out of the divine presence. To stay alert and pray are good deeds of righteousness, which will also have the reward of the Lord. So, strive to be a child after the heart of the Father, just as David was (Acts 13: 22). You can!

It does not matter how many are with today’s “hagrites”. Without a doubt, all will be delivered into your hand. Honor the Lord by keeping His commandments. Then you will be able to count on His continual and unfailing assistance. Halleluiah!
