Ever since man was created from the dust of the earth and the first couple fell into transgression, nothing has changed. Asaph knew this and not understanding what was happening to him, he decided to consider the days of old. He meditated on what the Lord had done on behalf of His servants and saw that none had been forsaken. This caused the faith in his spirit to be revived. Therefore, he was able to contend by faith and was helped by God´s power.
From the earliest times, people have learned to walk with the Lord. Although Adam’s sin separated us from the Most High, those who walked with Him had a happy ending, like Enoch, the seventh after Adam: And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him (Genesis 5:24). When Enoch decided to walk with the Lord, he managed to get rid of the flesh and its attractions, becoming important to Him. Watch and pray!
In the Flood, only Noah, his wife, his three sons and his daughters-in-law were saved. Most people preferred to live the “best” of life, without caring about the testimony of God’s servant. Noah was a preacher of righteousness, but the people did not want to listen to him. However, when they saw the fulfillment of the prophecy delivered by this servant of God, they tried to enter the ark at the last minute but couldn’t go in (1 Peter 3:20; 2 Peter 2:5). Those who put off their decision to side with the Savior will find out that it will be too late. Believe!
Abraham’s call proved that he knew how to pay attention to the Most High. Lot, his nephew, coveted the land of Sodom and prospered, but when God’s judgment reached Sodom and Gomorrah, all that Lot had achieved in life was left behind and was burned in the great fire that the cities of sin had become (Genesis 13.1-13; 19.15-29). Was the greed and the work he undertook to succeed worth it? Today’s greedy people will be very sorry at Jesus’ return!
When he considered the days of old, Asaph was encouraged in God and given power to overcome the evil that oppressed him. Do the same and examine the Scriptures. Then you will become wise and will not miss the opportunity to be born again and go to Heaven with Jesus. Nothing compares to the eternal happiness that awaits those who love the Word of God. But those who give themselves over to the flesh and to unbridled desires will lament for all eternity (Galatians 6:8).
The heroes of faith drew strength from weakness (Hebrews 11:32-34). The Lord directs the weak to say he is strong (Joel 3:10). The wise man can overcome a large army, but the fool who has much vigor loses to the one who loves God. The Scriptures declare: My son, if your heart is wise, My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself; (Proverbs 23:15). Asaph was wise to ponder about the days of old and saw God’s servants being answered. The wise still look for Jesus (Matthew 2:2).
David was the eighth son of Jesse. But in the natural order, the firstborn was to be heir to everything, so much so that the prophet Samuel, when he saw the eldest son, rejoiced and said that he was God’s chosen one. But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).

Lord of the ancient times! Those who love You and serve You should not worry about what they will eat or what they will wear, because You have prepared everything. We need nothing except to take possession of the things You have given us. You are our God and Father!
It is nothing new that we face problems, but we cannot forget that Asaph learned to consider what You did in ancient times. The psalmist was prudent and blessed. Help us to meditate and draw from Your revelation what we need!
Being Your children, we should fear nothing. You are the Man of War, who leads us within Your wonderful plan. Victory will be ours! Though the enemy comes with full force, Your Spirit will fly the banner against him. Father, You are wonderful!
