For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Psalm 84:11

What would become of the Earth if the Sun did not exist? Well, God is so perfect that when He created all things He made that star and put it at an appropriate distance from our planet. That happened because if Sun and Earth were closer to each other no earthly creation would bear such enormous heat; conversely, if they were further away from each other life here would also be impractical since the cold would not allow anything to be produced. In fact, our Creator made all things the right size and He put them at the right position. Nonetheless, apart from that important star created by God, the Lord offers Himself to be our Sun.
The Word states that God is at our disposal to be our shield. My brethren, we all know how important that tool is to protect men from evil arrows shot at their direction. When he became aware of such divine offering the psalmist David stated that a thousand would fall at his side and ten thousand at his right hand but it would not come near him (Psalm 91:7). Those who have the Lord as their shield can also say that no evil shall befall them and that no plague will come near their dwelling (verse 10).
The verse above from Psalm 84 also promises the divine grace to those who walk uprightly – which is the moving of God in our favor. That blessed action has been at everybody’s disposal since Jesus came to redeem us from the fall. The worst sinners have that Grace upon their lives but it cannot do anything for them before they decide to put it into action. That was the great tragedy of the Hebrews who did not recognize the coming of the One who had made the covenant with Abraham. The Word of God states that He came for His people and they did not receive Him (John 1:11).
God provides everything for us to live a decent life. Besides giving His only Son, He also gave us His Holy Spirit and raised apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers in the church in order for His people to develop their faith. As though it was not enough, the Scriptures also state that the Almighty God will give glory to those who follow Him the right way. Therefore, we have to find out everything that was given to us freely in our Beloved One so we will be able to enjoy the abundant life that He offers us. The requirement for all that to happen is for us to walk uprightly, which means that we have to walk based on what we have learned in the Bible. Now, without the revelation passed on by the Word of the Lord we will be in darkness and, consequently, we will not be able to please God and neither will we have the true Light to enlighten our steps and to guide us.
It is also good to point out the fact that not even Jesus Christ Himself made decisions without His Father’s authorization. Only those who walk according to the divine commandments do manage to establish themselves as successful people.
