Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Hebrews 4:14
To the Lord Jesus – for His qualities, for what He is, for what He did, does and will do for us – numerous titles were given. Today, we regard Him as our High Priest. When this title was given to Him people knew exactly what that position represented. The person occupying it was the highest authority here on earth, for he was in charge of conducting God’s work, of ministering to Him on behalf of the people and he also had the power to make decisions concerning issues that arose among the people. Having someone to occupy that place was in God’s plans and the fact that Jesus became our High Priest is something of the utmost significance.
Well, we should not forget that He is also the Son of God. So, besides being the One who represents the Most High in our midst and takes our petitions to the Father, Christ is the heir, the Father’s successor. In Him we were also made heirs of God. Actually, He is everything for us in all things. Before His incarnation, He was the Word of God that created all things (John 1:1), so it is impossible for us to fathom His ability. He is the exact image of the Father, being one with Him. Therefore, with Him, we can do all things.
The birth of Christ was different from ours in that in His conception there was no seed of man. During the time He was on earth He committed no sin, despite having been tempted in all things. The devil had nothing in Him, and every time he tempted Him, he was defeated.
Jesus went to the cross to replace us and through His death the price for our redemption was paid. He descended into hell, defeated Satan, taking from his hands the keys of death and hell (Rev. 1:18). When resurrected, He justified us and today those who believe in Him are free from any work of hell. Now we are waiting for the day when the Lord will come to take us to Heaven.
While living in this world full of temptations and traps set by the enemy, it is important to hold fast our confession. Not only must we confess that we were made in Him, what we are here on Earth and will be throughout eternity, but we have to do these things by firmly holding the confession. The enemy will obviously try to dissuade us from occupying the position in which we have been placed. So, if we hold the confession and do not back down, our High Priest will represent us before the Father. As a result, the devil will not be able to make us lose our faith in what we are and what we can do.
The guidelines provided by the Word should be taken seriously. So keep in mind that it is your duty to hold fast the confession of what God says you are in Christ. Do not let discouragement take over you in any way. Whoever confesses what he is in Jesus, what he has accomplished and the things he can do in His name, will undoubtedly have the power from on High operating in his life more freely and completely. Even when everything seems not to be going well if you are acting in accordance with the Word, hold firmly to what you believe because our High Priest always fulfills His mission.
