Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Genesis 32.24

There are times when we need to be alone with God, to open our hearts and feel what we need to do to accomplish His will. Jesus taught that some factors prevent us from being productive in the spiritual life, when He spoke about the seed fallen amongst thorns (Mark 4.18). We must get rid of these elements that do not let the Truth act in us, as it did in the servants of the Lord in the past.

Jacob was convinced that he was walking before God – and that made all the difference. We can also have the same certainty, as long as we live in prayer and observe the revelations of the Word. Thus, Isaac’s son, who had an exemplary fear of the Lord, stood alone and opened up to the Almighty, citing the promises he had heard from Him. Then a man appeared fighting with him, and the patriarch faced him in faith.

A battle with God shows that we are determined to obey Him – and that pleases Him. In this battle, we cannot give up our rights or we will achieve nothing. Every revealed promise belongs to us, that’s why Jacob grabbed the Angel. Never give up what you have been assured by the Most High. Isaac’s son knew that this man had been sent to bless him.

If God has enlightened you about a biblical statement, you have the “yes” from Heaven. Therefore, you must act! Don’t let the heavenly messenger go. The heavenly Father would not promise you something, and then withdraw it. The Bible says: “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (Numbers 23.19).

The cares of this life are real traps capable of trapping people, who don’t realize the need to change their conduct. Vanity dominates those who do not know the Lord and even some leaders of the holy work. Why do we have to worry about tomorrow, about things that are nothing, while we miss the opportunities to serve God as we should? Get rid of it!

As for the concerns related to our existence, Jesus summarized what our attitude should be: “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?  (Matthew 6.25). The journey of those who follow divine guidance will be lighter and more productive.

Jacob only had the chance to change the goal of his brother, Esau, who was going to meet him with 400 men. Therefore, the patriarch clung to the Angel, so that he would not leave without blessing him. Do the same: take hold of the Scriptures and fight with all your might, for God has said: And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29.13).

In Christ, with love,

Lord of our loneliness! When he was alone, Jacob saw Your answer and held on to it. You were there to give him the victory, but he learned that he had to hold on tight to You, to change his brother Esau's heart.

Teach us to pray as we ought, to not give up our rights and to plead with You for the fulfillment of the promise. Instruct us in the way to victory, for we cannot be defeated by discouragement nor by evil!

You yourself gave Jacob encouragement and instead of getting tired of fighting, he was renewed every second. We want to fight with Your help! Then we will not lose the battles against the enemy of our soul. Father, increase our strength until victory!
