She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

John 8:11

Adultery is one of the worst sins that someone can commit; after all, it involves other wrongdoings: covetousness, deception and also, in case of conception, the birth of a child out of the wedlock. And yet, many people are impacted by adultery, which destroys marriages, leads to household mayhem, besides leaving indelible marks in the lives of those who commit it. If nothing else, this insane act will lead their perpetrators to the lake that burns with fire and brimstone (Revelation 21:8).

Unfortunately, adultery has become a tragedy, a plague in our days. And yet the film industry, television and other media have led thousands of people into regarding this evil practice as no big deal. As a result, many get carried away by this disgusting lie of the enemy and end up engaging in it.

Let us pose the following question regarding the adulterous woman: why would she be the only one to be stoned? Well, the text of Leviticus 20:10 states that both man and woman should be put to death, but at that time people thought that the blame should fall only on the female figure. Nonetheless, it is not up to us to judge what should or should not be done; what we have to do is only to fulfill the Word of God!

When she was brought before Jesus that woman could have been convicted, but Christ came into the world to save those who were lost (I Timothy 1:15). The Master’s verdict made those who heard it go out one by one because they had all sinned. Then Jesus asked the woman where her accusers were and because they were all sinners none of them could cast the first stone at her.

This passage teaches us that we should have compassion for those who have fallen into iniquity. After all, who has not been about to commit the same sin – or even a worse one? In the Corinthian church itself, many of those people who were converted to the Gospel had abandoned practices such as adultery and homosexuality (I Corinthians 6:11).

Although it is not everyone that has committed such a vile sin as adultery, the truth is that there is not even one of us who has not transgressed. But the good news is that the grace of God wants to reach everyone who still is in this situation. Everybody needs the Lord\’s help to get rid of the doom that came upon mankind with the fall of Adam, and to this end the remedy has been provided. So there\’s no reason for anyone to stick to the devil. Jesus told the woman that not even God, the One who never sinned, would condemn her. So she was free!

What a wonderful statement: “Neither do I condemn you”. However, one day Jesus will no longer say these words because He will not be the Savior but the Judge of the living and the dead (Acts 10:42). While the world exists He will continue to be our lawyer, but after the time for repentance has elapsed, He will judge man for what he did with the Truth. Then sin will find each one of them and will denounce them.

“Go, and sin no more” was the Master’s order for that woman. This ordinance extends to everyone who does not want to be lost forever. My brethren, sin does not pay off because it drives us away from God and turns us into servants of Satan. So while there is still time, get away from it!

In Christ with Love,
