Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” John 1:45

Finding Jesus is such a great joy that nothing in this world can be compared to. It is greater than when everything is going well.  You have to be one to have heard the voice of God to know the feeling of satisfaction that fills the soul when hearing it.  Certainly Philip was filled with satisfaction for knowing that he had been called by the Master.  Now his soul wanted to share and multiply the joy of having met the Savior. This is common to all who discover the Son of God, because the search ceases.

It is not always that this joy is perceived by the people we share the gospel with and this is frustrating.  Sometimes we remember friends and relatives and talk to them about the love of Christ.  However, we become discouraged with their indifference and resistance to feeling the same as we do.  This only means that they are not prepared to be saved and they need more prayer and the love of God.

When he found Nathanael whom he sought to give the Good News, Philip saw that many times it is difficult to convince somebody of the Truth.  This is our daily battle we have to fight. It shows that people are incredulous, deceived, prostituted, addicted to something or caught up in some religion, because the enemy’s work prevents them from opening their hearts to the Lord.  One must do battle!

Overjoyed, he told Nathanael who they had found: The One whom Moses had written about.  However, just as if he had thrown a bucket of cold water on the fire of Philip’s heart, his friend asked him where was He from. Then when he heard that the Master was from Nazareth, he asked if anything good could come from that town (John 1:46).  Certainly all towns have good and bad people.  But if some of these people surrender to error, this does not mean that all of them are wrong.

It was simply a matter of checking to see if in fact Jesus was or was not mentioned by Moses: For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you (Acts 3:22). Nathanael did not want to verify this, because all that mattered to him was: where the Messiah came from.  Pure prejudice that deceives and destroys!

Why did he not ask the Lord about the man that Philip said he had met? If it were he, the Almighty would testify in His favor.  Would He not be the renewal of David whom Jeremiah had written about?  In the same way, often times we see missions that were raised by God be destroyed because the appointed servant that had been prepared and sent came from a town or place of origin that had a bad reputation.  Mercy!

It is good and wise to be cautious, but to be prejudice is unhealthy.  All must be known by the fruit of their labor and not because of their surrounding neighbors that were led into temptations.  The criteria of the Lord in choosing who will serve Him is seen by the response that people  give to His touch in their hearts, when  they hear from the Savior, and not by their origin.

In Christ, with Love,

Lord of the Church!  We have to accept Your choices, because what matters is whom You justify, and not someone whom the people judge worthy of being in the work. Your elected are much better than man’s elected. After all, You see the heart and not the human attributes.

Your witness concerning what is written withholds us from error.  When You make us understand Your will and what You did in our favor, through whom You chose, we have only to accept it.  You would never elect someone without Your anointment.

So many many things are in the Scriptures concerning us! But many do not accept the people that You called up because of their origin, or the lack of material or even moral resources. But, if You justified them in Christ, You have prepared them for Your work.
