Who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
I Thessalonians 5:10
We have already learned that Jesus died to save us from eternal death – which is altogether true (John 3:16), but His sacrifice on the cross, apart from salvation, grants us other blessings too. One of them is living together with Him and I point out here that it is possible – even in this world full of dangers, temptations and other evils – for us to be close to God every day. It means that our adversary cannot touch us or deviate us from the Way because those who live with the Lord become one with Him and absolutely nothing can affect them.
We are the elect of God; therefore we must be on the alert so as to prevent the enemy from tempting us into having a different mindset. In any situation, we must bear in mind that He chose us with a particular purpose before the foundation of the world and He will send all the necessary means for that purpose to be fulfilled. Therefore, no one shall bring any charge against the lives of those who were called by the eternal God to become part of His Body (Romans 8:33).
You cannot live as if you are one of the lost; after all, Christ taught us that we need to watch (Matthew 26: 41). So, do not fail to stay alert and do not stop believing in what the Master said: He said that we must watch and pray so as not to enter into temptation. Was there ever a particular moment in your life when the devil came to tempt you? Some people, for instance, are visited by the tempter when they go to bed, which is when a variety of fantasies and also many evil desires spring to mind. If, however, we obey what the Word of God says, we will not have problems with our enemy.
What happened to some disciples of Jesus is what we have gone through currently: if we do not keep our eyes open, we will fall for the traps of the devil. Bear in mind that even when you are sleeping, you keep
on living together with God. If you have fallen for any sin, you just have to confess it because the Lord is faithful and righteous to forgive you (I John 1:9) and to purify you from all transgressions.
All that Jesus accomplished with His death is meant for us to be able to live with Him. So, do not waste that opportunity of spending twenty-four hours of your day with the Lord and seven days a week breathing the divine atmosphere. Those who live this way will never be visited by the devil because for him to touch you he will first have to go through The One who is a Consuming Fire (Hebrews 12:29). If you have suffered from any “incurable” evil but you live with the Lord, you must not worry! Believe that that Fire will destroy all evil actions, stand firm in your faith and pray.
Do not waste the care that Jesus has for you because He included you in His death and bore all your suffering in order to grant you the freedom that the children of God have. Live the freedom of holiness as well as the other blessings of salvation!
