Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it so the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Exodus 17: 6

Very often, the people of God cannot see what He is about to do and, when that happens, they engage in moaning and quibbling against their very brothers in Christ. That occurred with the children of Israel when they camped in Rephidim where there was no water to drink. Moses sought the divine direction and He then received the command to go ahead of them along with some of the elders. He was supposed to go up to Horeb and then strike a rock.

One of the lessons we learn in the verse above is that when The Lord directs us on something we have to do, He already knows what is going on next. Therefore, we can be sure about one thing: His Word will always be fulfilled. Now, He told Moses to go to Horeb to strike the rock saying that He would surely be upon it. That promise indicates that He will always be present in the place where we are sent to.

It is clear that according to the divine plan, God does not need any push to operate. The Israelites were in a dry land where there was no water. Even though, to give them that so precious liquid, The Lord sent Moses to that place where, humanly speaking, it would be impossible to find something to quench their thirst. As he got there, the servant of The Most High should have struck the rock for water to come out from it. He had to trust that would happen otherwise that would not work.

Those who need an answer from Heavens must go wherever The Lord tells them to considering that The Scripture says that He will be ahead to fulfil what He has promised. God always expects us to believe in His Word; therefore, when you do what you were instructed to, you can be certain that The Omnipotent will go before you. Yet, those who do not believe in what He says will never live such experience.

Therefore, do not look to the obstacles which may prevent that commandment to you from being fulfilled. The Lord knows His promises very well and He has the power to do the work however hard it seems to be. If He had commanded Moses to dig down in that place, many people who did not believe would have said that that water was always there, but getting it out of the rock is something that goes beyond our reasoning capacity.

Just like The Most High said there was water coming out in abundance. Likewise, your “Rock” will give you in abundance that which was promised to you. The Lord never fails and only those who pay heed to Him can see His glory. Therefore, do not be afraid of fulfilling what has been commanded to you. That act was quite a challenge for Moses considering that he had to take along with him the elders of that people. For that reason, a necessary element must always be present here: faith itself (Hebrews 11: 6 a).

Therefore, this is the lesson we learn here: you must never tremble before a challenge. God places us in such situations in which we tend to think we are bound to fail. Yet, only the work that He can do is capable of sanctifying you before men. Believing in The Lord is about believing in those very things He says in His Word. Trust in what He speaks; therefore you will have what has been promised to you.

In Christ, with love,
