For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. 1 Kings 11:5

Moses told the Israelites about two paths, the path of life and the path of death: I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;( Deuteronomy 30: 19) The exhortation ends by saying that they should choose life. Likewise, God warns people to do the same, because the curse will kill them!

The result of Solomon’s carnality was sad in every way, starting with the bad example he set for his people. It was as if people were saying, “If the king does it, we can do it too.” The man rewarded with the gift of wisdom allowed himself to be blinded by those who did not know the Lord, and began to follow the diabolical doctrine of Ashtoreth, goddess of the Sidonians. Still today, the devil has deceived many with the same strategy (2 Corinthians 4:4). Pray!

It is unbelievable that David´s son, a righteous and upright man, who led his life in God’s way, turned to follow demons. Moreover, Solomon did not wake up from this “dream” soon, going further and further down the path of lies. This shows us how we have to stay away from the offers of the “friends” who come to meet us, otherwise we will follow the powers that have already been cast out. Mercy!

The evil one doesn’t appear as he really is, but he transforms himself into an angel of light to deceive those who dare to think about the “happiness” they could have if they had an “affair” with Ashtoreth, Baal´s daughter. The Bible warns about Satan’s modus operandi: And no wonder, for Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Whoever refuses to listen to the Lord will be blinded by the devil in his transfiguration. Mercy!

The cult of the goddess Ashtoreth was meant to celebrate fertility and was full of sexual orgies and profanity. The king should have purged this cult from the Land of Promise and not participated in such filthiness. Be careful not to take the first step into that direction; if you do, the devil will take control of your life, and the next steps will be very sad. Stay vigilant!

The worship of Milcom, the abomination of the Ammonites, also known among the Moabites as Molech, consisted in offering children as a sacrifice. They believed that through this ritual they would prosper and have good crops. Moses´ Law condemned this worship, saying: And you shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God. I am the LORD (Leviticus 18:21). When one turns away from the heavenly Father, one approaches Satan at high speed!

Despite Solomon’s horrible mistake and that of so many others, Christ died, rose again, and defeated the devil and his demons forever. The sad thing is to see Christians allowing themselves to be led into adultery and consciously turning away from the living God and doing Satan´s will, regardless of eternal separation from God! (Hebrews 10:26-31).

In Christ, with love,

God of the safe way! It is good to know and fear You, respecting Your Word and the action of Your Spirit, which convinces us of sin, righteousness and judgment. It is not easy to see the path Solomon took, but let us use his mistake as a lesson not to repeat it!

We have in You what is necessary; therefore, we should not seek sinful things. Your love is enough for us to live in holiness and respect Your teachings. So, we ask: don't take this wonderful gift from us. Protect us, Father!

We desire to live free from evil influences, and be bound to the freedom conquered for us, through Jesus. We refuse the devil's offers, for they enslave us and reduce us to nothing. Thank You for setting us free - in Your beloved Son!
