The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. Psalm 41:2

This promise was made to those who shelter the poor. But before people start sheltering others just to receive the benefits of this promise, let me tell you that there must be a partnership with the Lord in order for this promise to be applicable to all of us. Those who don’t have the divine wisdom, Jesus said that they cast their pearls before swine (Mt. 7:6), because they spend a lot of time trying to convert those who weren’t called by the Lord most high.

Our master said that no one could come to Him if the Father himself, the One who sent him, didn’t do so (Jo 6:44). The same principle applies to us. We must spend time in prayer, stepping apart from what doesn’t edify our soul and giving ears to the Lord’s teachings. Of course we should transmit the divine message to all, because it is necessary to sow the seeds in the morning and not withhold our hands in the evening (Ec. 11:6). However, we should only shelter others when the Lord unlocks our understanding.

As partners of God, we will know how and when to do His work. When you feel that someone needs your message, your prayers or your help to find the truth, you must “spend” whatever necessary amount of time to help them. However, don’t pray for people if it isn’t under obedience to the divine message, otherwise you will not be fulfilling what is written on the first verse of this Psalm.

The Lord will present to you whoever needs your help, and it doesn’t matter if they are rich or poor, friendly or unfriendly. Therefore, once you’ve done this, share with them the instructions that you have learned from the Word, and they will be fed by the Lord most high, who gave you the ministry of sheltering. When bad days come, you will be protected, for the Lord will be your partner and friend from the moment you start obeying Him.

The divine work is done with the Father’s directions. The Holy Spirit is the one who guides us in His truth and who convicts us of sin and righteousness (Jo. 16:8); without Him there’s no work of God. Whoever allows the Holy Spirit to operate will be used like Philip was, when he was taken to speak to queen Candace’s eunuch (Acts 8:26-39). Although we try to “improve” the Lord’s actions, we will never be able to do that, for He always does what’s best.

Follow heaven’s instructions. This way you will be protected, your life will be preserved and God will make you happy. The Lord will never surrender those who belong to Him to His enemies. Even when we are sick, we can count on the Lord’s help, for He strengthens us on our bed of illness (Ps. 41:3). It is great to be the Lord’s partners in the great work He is doing nowadays.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
