23/12/2010 - Pay no heed to the Pharisees

“And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, ‘How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” (Mark 2:16)

The school that educates Pharisees has, actually, never been closed; on the contrary it’s been attended by many over the centuries and has graduated false saints. In Biblical times the Scribes copied the Word of God so they felt they had the right to interpret it. They didn’t accept the ministry of Jesus; actually, all they wanted was to hear something that would help them to accuse Him of some crime. So, when they saw Him eating and drinking with publicans – people that worked for the Romans – and with fishermen, they asked the disciples why Christ did that.

Our contemporary Pharisees keep seeking knowledge – which would be a very commendable habit if they were interested in using it to mend their ways and truly serve God. However, they aim at demoralising the Holy Spirit’s action and at finding out a way to condemn those who do the work of God the way it must be done. They’re interested in ravaging the work of the Lord. My brethren, they can even ask you for the reason of the hope that is in you (I Peter 3:15).

In His wisdom, Jesus instructed all of His disciples to greet no one along the road (Luke 10:4). Well, those who spend most of their time in other people’s churches, banqueting in what they call Christian koinonia are away from God’s banquet. The servants of the Lord must remember they received a calling to do His work and not to please each other. We must be faithful to the One who has turned us into His ministers and we should not allow others to prevent us from accomplishing our mission.

The time we spend receiving praise, certificates and other types of accolades should be used for prayer, meditation and in the search for Heavenly power. Those who live at the feet of the Lord manage to learn what’s necessary. On the other hand, those who are always engaged in social events are missing out a lot since what they least talk about is anything related to the Word of God. It’s disgusting to take part in events in which men are being worshipped, agreements are being made and the devil is glorified. The meetings we hold must always be for the glory of our Father!

There are many people oppressed by the power of darkness and they won’t be delivered if the servants of the Most High do not consecrate themselves before the throne of Grace in true communion with the Almighty. As a matter of fact, if our present-day leaders do not leave their desks to present themselves before the Almighty, the lost ones won’t be reached. If instead of working we take time for a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep, then poverty shall come on us like a prowler and our need like an armed man (Proverbs 6:10- 11; 24:33-34). Is it really what you’re looking for in your life?

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
