Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I Thessalonians 5:23

The Lord is the God of Peace. Peace means solution; healing; deliverance from sins, addictions, debts, financial and marital issues and other kinds of problems. Our Father has the capacity to turn the worst transgressor of human and divine laws into a sanctified person. He turns a disturbed individual into a quiet one. In His excellence, God does not cause chaos or any other kind of turmoil; rather He excels in His concerns for the welfare of His creation.

The Almighty One wants His people to seek sanctification, which is something complete because it encompasses our whole being and is available for everybody. The worst of sinners can be transformed as long as he allows the divine power to operate in his life. We know people who used to be completely contrary to good principles; people who lived in the filth of immorality, walking down the path of crime and all sorts of transgressions, but one day they paid heed to what the Word of God revealed to them and, in the blink of an eye, they gave themselves completely to Jesus and were renewed by His power.

The spirit – It is something indestructible. Because it was created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), it has the same essence of the Lord. While man is alive there is hope for him to be transformed into the person that the Father wants him to be. Yet, it is necessary to say “Yes” to Jesus and to allow Him to do His work. There is nothing we can do to improve or advance the process which will be performed by the Creator.

The soul – That is the part of man that reasons, thinks and that is connected to the mind. If the soul is not sanctified, it is not possible for human beings to do God’s will completely. Only those who submit to the divine care wholeheartedly and let themselves be made holy by Him can achieve victory over all temptations.

The body – It is the physical part of a being. It is a fact that matter will be destroyed after our death, when we are six feet under. However, upon the resurrection of the righteous our bodies will be raised in glory (I Corinthians 15). We do not know exactly how that will occur but we can have an idea based on what occurred to Jesus after his resurrection – He went to the place where the disciples were assembled though the doors were shut (John 20:19).

The Word says that spirit, soul and body will be preserved blameless for the coming of the Lord Jesus. It is good to pay attention to that detail because when He comes, if any of those three parts that constitute our life is not preserved without any flaw, we might suffer some kind of loss. Therefore, examine each part of your being and seek sanctification so that you do not suffer any harm.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Sores
