So the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the Lord which He had done for Israel. Judges 2.7

There is nothing better than living to serve the Lord, for not only will He reward us wonderfully for all we do in the work and protect us from the forces of Hell, He will still reward us after Jesus returns, and the reward will last eternally. Under Joshua’s command, the Israelites served God with all their hearts, and saw how valuable it was to be under the protection of those who please Heaven!

After Moses’ departure, his helper took over leadership. The elders who were under Joshua’s orders did not give up when they observed that the people were like children and would soon stray from the ways of the Most High. So, they prayed and asked the Almighty to prolong their days, so that they would help the Israelites to move on and not fear the devil. Thus, they saw the glory of God at work!

Today we have the same problem, because the generations come empty of the knowledge of the Lord, and this causes us to instruct them about God, about the gods of the religions, and about what can be obtained from the Most High. Every day, people are born who 20 years from now will be healthy or problematic. However, if we teach them the path of goodness, they will never turn their backs on the Truth and will love God.

We don’t know how to prolong our days, but we do know how to pray to the Lord to have new teachers who will guide young people to goodness. The teaching in this life is erased at death. However, instruction from God’s Word will follow us into eternity: Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” (John 6:27).

Those elders who managed to prolong their days had a double blessing. They not only helped the new ones to learn about the true, unique and eternal God, which is rewarding, but they also saw the great work done by the Israelites: taking over the land that had been promised to them since the days of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Whatever we do for the sake of God’s Kingdom and His righteousness will be repaid to us in great number! Pray!

You have never heard about anything like that happening to another people, for the Israelites lived in the desert for 40 years. No plague threatened their survival, except when they sinned. Even so, it was not human knowledge that put an end to the evils that arose, but rather – a return to the Most High in repentance. Moses prayed and the answer came immediately. They never lost hope.

What He did for Israel the Lord promises to do to any people who seek Him and walk in His ways. He is the Creator and Lord of mankind. Start seeking Him and you will find Him and receive His help!

In Christ, with love,

God who answers prayers! The elders' concern was legitimate, because the people of Israel were unaware of life around them and had little knowledge of Your Word. You heard the elders' prayer, and they prepared that generation to serve You!

Without military training or practice in warfare, the Israelites dispossessed thousands of people well prepared to resist any invasion. This must happen to us through the preaching of the Gospel, because You have empowered us to set the captives free!

We must not fear the wicked person that insists on dominating people with their lame excuses. We need to fear You, for You can make the body and soul of those who practice evil perish in hell. You will give us freedom to preach Your Word!
