Three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses 1 Chronicles 29.4

Not everyone who attends church regularly is a servant of God. Only those who seek to know what they should do and do so with gladness can use this title, as the Scriptures declare: Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing (Psalm 100.2). This joy is special, not forced. Your greatest battle will be won when you achieve this virtue in everything you do for the Lord.

For having participated in many wars and taken his share of the spoils, at the end of his days, King David was a very wealthy man. His prosperity came from his faithfulness to the Word, for he placed the Most High as top priority in his deeds. Even attending meetings in the House of God was a source of satisfaction for him: I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD” (Psalm 122.1). Do you consider yourself a servant?

David gave three thousand talents of gold, which was a fortune in those days. According to Bible scholars, a talent would be the wage a worker would receive for more than 15 or 20 years of service. David’s offering was nearly 103,000 kilos of gold, and of the gold of Ophir, considered the finest one. Look at how much a kilo of 24-karat gold would cost today and multiply that by 103,000. David said he did it with joy. Where are today’s millionaires?

As for the silver donated for the construction of the temple, its weight was six thousand talents, which, multiplied by the same measure of gold, comes to a total of 230,000 kilos. Many people today would not have the courage to offer such a large gift, because they lack faith that God’s promise would give them a reward infinitely greater than that. Many people would rather bet on the stock market than trust the Word. Then comes the question: are they saved?

David explained that the gold was to cover the walls of the House of God. What faith and love was in the king’s heart! Imagine if we put some gold on the walls of the church, what would the “spiritual” people say? Surely they would join in the rebuke of the thief Iscariot, when he spoke about the pure nard poured out on the Lord: Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor (John 12.5).

Let’s give the best to God! Thus, His house will shine a little of His glory, and people who live far from God, although they attend church regularly, will be moved to seek the eternal Father, who never forgets the children of His love. Yes, that´s us, because He so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son to die in our place, rescuing us from the kingdom of wickedness (John 3.16). To Him be the glory!

From now on, resist the unclean spirit that prevents you from carrying out the work with the best that the Lord gives you. The devil wants to “open” your eyes to wickedness so that he can dominate your life. No one has the right to criticize what God does as Sovereign. Surely even a “luxurious” decoration brings some revelation!

In Christ, with love,

God, wise Architect! Why did Your house need that gold? Why, if we are obedient to You, even the valuable perfume that the sinner poured on Your head had a message that we did not understand the reason for!

It is good to be sensitive to Your voice, to reach the lost so that they may know the Gospel. Then we will be graced with Your recognition: "Good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things". We need you for a happy life!

Receive our thanks for doing us the good that makes us happy. Your love is highly appreciated by Your children, for it is the answer to having Your commandments and keeping them. Show us more so that we may serve You better. Thank You, Father!
