So he lodged there that same night, and took what came to his hand as a present for Esau his brother: Genesis 32.13

Sensing what would happen with Esau’s arrival, Jacob opened his heart to the Lord and confessed his fear. It is not wrong to speak the truth with God, even if it seems like weakness. Lying is a sin and it displeases the Most High. The Word directs us to open our hearts, to free ourselves from the entanglements of this world. Therefore, the moment of prayer must be a child’s encounter with the Father. 

Remembering the promises made by the Almighty – things that only we know – will bring more confidence in the battle of prayer and thus, we will be victorious. There is nothing wrong with spiritually undressing ourselves in the divine presence. Moreover, we must not forget that the fight waged for our rights are spiritual, as are the weapons we have to use. Indeed, the weapons of human argument are weak and have no effect on the battles of faith (2 Corinthians 10.4).

When we show the Lord His declarations in our favor, we remind ourselves of what has already been given to us, and so our faith increases. Without faith, there is no way we can win. In your wrestling with God, which takes place at the moment of intercession, don’t let anything take you away from the revelation obtained from the Word concerning the subject of your petition. The Holy Spirit will strengthen you for victory!

Jacob had in his memory the promise made to him that his seed would be like the sand of the sea and therefore could not be counted. When struggling in prayer, declare to the Lord what you have learned from Him, and show Him that you accept these teachings and will not forsake them. Do not receive alternative suggestions, for God does not lie, and He will fulfill exactly what He has told you. He is faithful in everything!

Paul faced a storm that would not cease. When it had lasted more than 14 days, the apostle resisted with his strength by faith. Then, a heavenly angel comforted him with the following message: ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you’ (Acts 27.24). If he had not been bold enough to use his spiritual strength, he would not have received the angel’s visit!

With Paul it happened as he believed; with you, the same will happen. We become different, because the Lord has made us victorious: Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (Romans 8.37). The possibility of what comes from the mouth of the Most High not happening is nil. Everything He says will be fulfilled; all we have to do is “grab” His messenger! So be a warrior!

Learn to spend “that night” in God’s presence, a time when the light does not shine for you. Take gifts, from among the promises that have already been made known to you, and send them to those who persecute you and have not recognized your position before the Lord. After all, just like Jacob, you are Israel, the prince who fights with God and prevails (Genesis 32.28). Believe it!
