And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.   Genesis 13.10

When Abraham was called to go to the land that God would show him, he received all the attributes that would make him a blessed person. In that day, his brother Haran had already died, and Lot, the son of his brother, went to live with him. When Abraham left, he did not abandon his nephew or take his blessing away. However, Lot never recognized this.

Lot saw what God had done in Egypt, when the Pharaoh tried to take Sarah as wife, and God rebuked him severely. This situation should have spoken to his heart, for it was the proof that the Lord had a commitment with the servant that listened to him. Since he was under his uncle’s coverage, no harm would happen to him, and he would also share the blessings that followed Abraham during his entire walk.

Abraham enriched very much, and so did Lot, who should have loved his uncle more and not allowed his pastors to contend with Abraham’s pastors, since the blessing was with the Patriarch. Since he did nothing, his uncle came to him and proposed a separation; if he were wise, he would have suggested for them to seek an alternative for that crisis, for it would be good and productive for him to remain besides Abraham.

Since Lot was carnal and greedy, he raised his eyes and let the devil show Sodom (which was prosperous before it was destroyed by God’s fire). He was misled by his covetousness. He did not even care about giving what was best to his uncle, who had the promise, for what mattered to him was to outgrow his uncle. Now in the mountains, Abraham would not have the same material goods as Lot in that land.

The person who envious is ungrateful, and desires to be important. In order for this to become reality, he is able to do whatever he thinks in order to get someone’s position and rob him at all costs, even if he must lie, cheat, and then spend his entire life with shame. This person runs ahead of everyone and grabs everything for him, not knowing that the price that he will pay will be very high. Poor fool, will there not be Judgment Day?

With the defeat of the kings of Sodom ad Gomorra to the four invading kings, Lot was taken with his family and goods by the kings. But once again, Abraham blessed him and went to save him, defeating the kings and giving away the plunder. Lot should have reflected about it and sought the uncle’s forgiveness and consequently, the reconciliation with the blessing.

However, once again he showed himself evil and ungrateful, for he should have made things right with his uncle, even if he had to leave his goods in Sodom or surrender them to his uncle. Since he did not do this, later he lost everything that he had gained in life. He only did not lose his life and his family as well because he was Abraham’s relative.

In Christ, with love,

God of Abraham! How life comes around! He who thought that he was better, smarter, and more rewarded saw that his decision was foolish and carnal. It made him lose Your mercy. Thus, he got to the conclusion that his action was not good.

These examples are in Scriptures so that we may reflect and make the correct decisions, for our path in this world must be one that leaves no trail of evil, because we must represent Jesus.

Lot got everything he needed when he was with his uncle, but he lost everything when he was separated from him, including Your promises and presence. Look to the person who is praying now, and forgive him so that he may not pay the price for his insane act.
