Now it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city and killed all the males. Genesis 34.25

The time came when Jacob’s sons were waiting to avenge the evil that Shechem had done to Dinah. The prince had caused her such harm that only the Lord could quantify. She would no longer be the same after the traumatic experience to which she was exposed. Before doing harm to the young woman, Shechem should have thought better, but since he only thought about the pleasure he would feel and not about the spirit he let possess him, her honor cried out to God and something had to be done.

People who live in error and don’t mind harming their neighbor should consider the pain they inflict on the innocent, because reparation will be asked of them. Sin will only be destroyed by the conviction that God’s Spirit gives to the offender that he has done wrong and causes him to repent. Dinah was heir to the promises made to Abraham and by extension, to those who accepted salvation in Jesus. She was beloved of the Lord!

Anyone who dishonors someone’s home is either crazy, or unaware of what the Bible says about it. At the Final Judgment, he will find no forgiveness for his selfish demeanor: Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does so destroys his own soul (Proverbs 6.32). Why destroy your own soul in exchange for a favor done to the devil? This loathsome act is so serious that it can only be solved if the transgressor repents and confesses it in life.

Many people have let the evil one fill their heart with a shameful feeling and therefore have determined that they will not confess it at all, but they will have shame for all eternity, for the Bible says: Wounds and dishonor he will get, and his reproach will not be wiped away (Proverbs 6.33). Intercede for those who have been caught by the demon of adultery. From death onward, their error will be tormenting. The adulterer needs forgiveness!

The Bible speaks of the jealousy that will take over the betrayed spouse on the Day of Accountability: For jealousy is a husband’s fury; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance (Proverbs 6.34). See in the bloodthirsty fury of Dinah’s brothers a little of what will happen when it is revealed that someone has been betrayed. Jacob’s sons were very angry with Shechem, and to avenge their sister’s honor, they killed all the men of that city.  

They saw no reward to match the outrage they had suffered, for their sister’s pain was like a betrayal done by the prince, who had promised to give them whatever they wanted. Now, for that act, only the revenge of honor: He will accept no recompense, nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts (Proverbs 6.35). At that time, there was no conviction of the Holy Spirit, it was an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, but today there is (Matthew 5.38,39). Confess and be forgiven.

For a thoughtless act that caused great harm, just punishment will be required in the eternal Judgment. Each person is unique and should be treated in a worthy manner. This needs to be understood in the right way. It was a foretold tragedy. Be careful now!
