The LORD will bring you and the king whom you set over you to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods—wood and stone. Deuteronomy 28.36

The list of sufferings that the Israelites would experience if their rebellion was consummated is long – from verse 16 to 68 in Deuteronomy chapter 28. There we see the evils that would befall them. Unfortunately, the warning was rejected, and they paid a high price. I see that God’s children today do not realize that this is an example of what will happen to them. Watch and pray will deliver us from evils!

Moses said that the Lord would lead the children of Israel into captivity together with their king. It’s good to remember that there was not yet a monarch ruling over them. This only happened when Samuel was the judge, and at the request of the people – God allowed them to have a king. The Most High showed His foreknowledge. There is no escape for those who ignore the teachings of the Bible, which protect us from the kingdom of perdition.

We must never desire anything contrary to the Word. The Israelites made a mistake when they desired a ruler, as other people had, and made a stand on it. But the Lord granted them because of their insistence. If we act this way, God may give us something, but it wouldn’t be His real will. The risks of walking in the permissive will of the Father are enormous. If we do so, the price of disobedience will fall on our shoulders.

The prophecy mentioned in the verse was fulfilled, after the country split in two, and the Northern kingdom, that of Samaria, became a mixture of sorcery, idolatry and shamelessness. Although they saw what happened to Samaria, the people of Judah continued to err and do what led the people of the North to destruction. Those who do not heed what God says – will go into captivity of eternal suffering.

There is no greater humiliation than to be taken to a distant land, without any rights, because being a slave, the king of this wicked empire will rule over all. Few are concerned about what is happening in the country, but if we pray and live in the divine presence, the heavenly power will grant us rest and vigor. Why disobey God if He only wants our good?

Worshiping other gods is like being taken to a foreign country to serve as objects for the prostitution instituted in that land, for we will have to do what the rulers want. Why not get right with the Almighty, who promises to make us His children? Is it worth living in rebellion, if the suffering will be desperate? Take care not to get lost!

Instead of having contact with the Lord, you will bow down to gods of clay, wood and other materials, and you will not enjoy fellowship with the One who is humble, pure and holy of heart. Be careful not to be deceived by the devil, as Adam and Eve were.
