Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the Lord your God has forbidden you. Deuteronomy 4.23

In this chapter of Deuteronomy, the Lord speaks several times about the dangers of idolatry – the making, selling or buying of objects of worship and of any animal figure that leads man to turn away from the true worship of God – as well as of seeking solutions to problems in divination (Deuteronomy 4.15-19). This was a danger to the Hebrews, because the mind would give them the false impression of security. We can trust only in the Creator!

The servants of the Lord could not forget the covenant that the Most High had made with them, by taking them out of the “pots”, Egypt, where they had no rights and were oppressed by the tyrant who reigned there. Today, those who have understood the work Jesus did for humanity on Calvary’s cross need to remember that they are in the New Covenant – in which there is nothing left to do, and they must exercise their rights in Christ.

Physical idolatry remains forbidden, and intellectual and spiritual idolatry likewise cannot take over our soul, making us worship people used by the Lord to bring us into His presence. Jesus said: Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven (Matthew 23.9). It is not wrong to regard those who have taught you the Word or ministered a blessing to your life; but you must worship only the Lord!

In some circles considered evangelical, the enemy has managed to create the figure of the guardian, something that does not exist in the Scriptures. With this, many people only do something, if their “guardian” authorizes them. Contrary to this fad, the Word says: None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them  (Hebrews 8.11).

Everyone must be taught to meditate on the Bible and feel what God speaks to them through the Word, then the Holy Spirit will teach them: But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you (John 14.26). Remember that we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5.7), led by God, and not by man.

We don’t have to preach about ourselves or our church, for that is stealing God’s glory: I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images (Isaiah 42.8). Everything that tries to take away the praise of the Most High comes from the devil. We cannot be used by the Father and become responsible for that. Only He deserves the honor for such deeds.

Never allow the enemy to take you out of the Lord’s presence by causing someone to go astray. Be a servant and God will use you. Don´t magnify yourself, but give Him the praise for your accomplishments in Jesus. Without Him we can do nothing (John 15.5).

In Christ, with love,

God of the everlasting Covenant! We do not want to separate ourselves from the covenant made based on Jesus' blood. It guarantees us blessings, as long as we add nothing or take nothing from the Scriptures. It is good to be part of the New Covenant and remain in it!

Keep us from vanity, pride, and conceit, for these have led many astray from the Path. We want to keep away from graven images and self-proclaimed guardians, who are nothing but deceivers!

For us, the truth of the biblical records, both Old Testament and New, is enough. Instruct us, teach us, and guide us in the Way forward. We give glory to You forever. Thank You for Your love!
