Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

Philippians 3:8

There are highly intelligent people all over the world; people who, for example, master certain scientific subjects and teach them with such wisdom that it is a pleasure to see them speaking on the topic. By the way, we can not deny that, through their discoveries, they do a great good to mankind. However, many of these scholars, because of not bowing before God, lack what is most excellent: the knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.

While many love wealth, fame and the glory of this world, we who have found salvation in Jesus, love the knowledge of Christ. The lost, when referring to us, speak with contempt and deem us foolish, when in fact they are the ones dominated by the forces of hell because they have not yet encountered the Son of God.

Now, our aim should be the excellence of the knowledge of Jesus! So instead of allowing people to manipulate us, we must be careful with those who want to turn us into religious followers of the doctrines of men. We are free in Jesus to have the excellence of wisdom!

God is made up of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Christ is the Son of God in whom all wisdom is. Anyone who has accepted Him as Savior should not conform to what they have conquered but they must set out to achieve that very goal due to which they were held captive in Jesus.

As much as we try here on earth we will never fully know our Savior, but in eternity we will know Him as we are known by Him (I Corinthians 13:12). However, in order for us to continue on this blessed journey we must loose whatever is necessary in order for us to gain the knowledge of Jesus.

As the Bible itself says, the things of this world that are considered to be important are nothing but rubbish compared to who the Son of God is. So do not get carried away by fame, vanity or any other glory someone might try to offer you. What matters is to seek the excellence of the knowledge of Christ.

Would you be willing to sacrifice all things, considering them as rubbish in order to gain Christ? My brethren, if someone gathers all the richness and still has not found Jesus, he will eventually come to the conclusion that he has had a major loss. My prayer is that you, brothers and sisters, may examine your priorities and invest in what will bring you eternal happiness!

In Christ with Love,

R. R. Soares
