For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. 2 Corinthians 4.17

We ought to always be thankful to the Lord for the opportunity of hearing the Gospel and understanding the message that gave us the greatest of all blessings – salvation. Having been saved, we can now live fearless of the future, because we are one with God and, as a result, we can determine what we want and, if we believe, Jesus will do it (John 15.7).

Many of the promises of the Most High will be fulfilled in eternity. However, even in this world full of troubles and sorrows, we can live as if we did not have these difficulties. Those who trust in the Lord need not fear tomorrow, nor be taken by any threat. We have the promise that we will never be ashamed (Isaiah 49.23). So, how about we take up our position in Christ?

As for the future, the Scripture is reassuring: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2.9) – for him who has and keeps His commands (John 14.21). Focus on this verse, because only these are the people who will have eternal joy.

Do not grumble when things don’t go well, because your affliction is light and momentary. The eyes of the Most High are always on us and, if something is bothering us, we should remember He always knows what is best. Before we go to Him with our complaint, we ought to search the Scriptures. Then, if the issue is not settled, it is probably due to our little faith (Mathew 17.20). Thus, we must pray for mercy.

According to the verse we’re studying, God allows these afflictions, because they will produce for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Do not look at trials as something bad, but as difficulties God consents to work for your good. Therefore, look at these unpleasant moments as opportunities to store up treasures to be enjoyed in eternity.

The Spirit of God led Jesus to the wilderness for 40 days of fasting and to be tempted by the devil (Mathew 4.1). He may be doing the same to you. The Master was among beasts, but our tempters are also cruel when plotting against us. However, in the Name of Jesus and in the Word, you will be able to tear down the weapons of the enemy. Our God always gives those who are firm in their faith in Christ an escape from temptation (1 Corinthians 10.13).

When you keep your eyes on the Savior you pay no attention to the lies of the devil. The secret is to be determined and persevere until the end. Nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8.39). Salvation empowers us to be made sons of the Most High (John 1.12). It is up to you to decide whose son you will be.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares

Lord of eternal glory! Thank you for allowing us to hear the Good News. This divine blessing has changed our eternal destiny and, because of that, when our lives end here we will be by Your side forever and ever. Halleluiah!

We are not sure what exactly is in store for us, but we believe it will be wonderful, because You have prepared it. Then, when Jesus comes for us, we will enter Your Kingdom of love, beauty and holiness. We will be there with You for all of eternity.

Oh Father! Let us not grumble or become annoyed by the tribulations, because you have already promised they are light and momentary, working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Help us persevere to the very end.
