“Do not labour for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” (John 6:27)
The academic knowledge we get is good and necessary for everything we do. The fact of being graduated in College, for instance, not only gives us a competitive advantage when we look for a job in the work market, but it also gives us the possibility to broaden our view of the world. Yet, when people die they do not take to their tomb any theories found in the works of renowned writers because death signals the end of the material world.
Now the contrary occurs to those who really learn the Word of God. The understanding we get as we read the Scriptures will never abandon us, but remains with us for eternity. Well, if Jesus teaches us to seek that kind of food it’s because those who will live in the Heavens with Him will need it. So, we’d better pay heed to our Master’s advice and to do all our best to learn more and more.
This food is given by God, but it’s up to us to go for it. Those who aren’t interested in it or don’t strive to go for it, won’t get it. We know what must be done to get the food that endures to everlasting life, so why not doing all our best to get more of it? Otherwise we’ll enter eternity without it. If it was not necessary to store the food, our Savior wouldn’t have instructed us to work with this purpose.
The Lord says that He feeds those who work. He never said that some would obtain it without any effort. That demonstrates that Jesus is watching us so He can also see what we’re doing and what we’ve failed to do. We’ll be rewarded by Him with eternal food provided we do our best, but we’ll get nothing if we’re reckless or lazy.
God, our Father, sealed Jesus for Him to be able to give us that food and we shouldn’t seek it just out of curiosity. On the contrary, it must be taken seriously since He was sealed and anointed to be able to give us that blessed food. Those who despise such precious
advice from the Lord will surely repent forever. Only those who show interest in it and those who do all their best to get it will be successful in their duty.
Our Master stated that he who believes in Him would do the works that He did (John 14:12), that’s precisely why we’re expected to seek the same tools He did and the same anointing. Strive to be sealed by God so that He’ll empower you to open people’s mind. Of course there are some things only He can do, but we can take people to Him so they’ll also be enlightened by the eternal Truth.
In Christ, with love,
R. R. Soares
