“Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever, their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.” (Psalm 49:11)

Men are deceived by their achievements. Material assets have the power to confuse even the most spiritual people. Those who put their hearts in the riches they have amassed go apart from God and will eventually be in great pain. It is wise not to swap the trust in the Lord for anything at all in this world. We must keep an eye wide open to prevent the enemy from making us lose focus on the true goal; after all, because he knows we will not let go of our salvation he does all he can to make us look at other things. The devil has successfully deceived many people by leading them to love worldly things.

A College diploma, a rank of authority, money to purchase whatever you wish, or any other advantage that makes you consider yourself better than other people are the enemy’s tricks to take you away from the presence of God. Those who live off of faith in their potential or those who consider themselves extremely good at everything they put their hands to need to stop and take a few steps backwards, besides asking God for forgiveness. This person is already in error and bound to fall. My brethren, never trust in anything you own, but only in the Lord.

Material assets are not eternal. They can be in your hands temporarily and when you least expect it they slip through your fingers. However, even if they remain with you during your journey here on Earth, they will be of no assistance to you on the Great Day because you will be stripped of everything before the righteous Judge.

Everything we have achieved in this life will stay here when we die. The only thing that will never be removed from us is the salvation we achieved through Jesus as well as everything we have learnt from Him. Trusting in transient things and loving them are not the right things to do. Whether we have a lot or a little, what we have to do is to put our trust in God and give Him praises for everything we own or have achieved.

We need to recognize that the Lord is the One who grants us the power to gather riches and who leads us in triumph. The real preparation for life is given to us by our God Himself. Those who acknowledge that and give Him praises are able to go through trials without suffering. Now those who brag about the results they have achieved are simply hindering the operations of the divine power in their lives.

Grateful people experience many joyful moments in Christ. In fact, a miracle is the start of a cycle that will never have an end. When we give to ourselves the honor that is due to our Creator we paralyze His operation in our favor. So, we must always show gratitude to Him and He will be with us all the time. We cannot let the enemy prevail for the Grace of God has already been poured out on us.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
