The purpose of God in raising us up to preach the gospel, even when we are considered the scum of the world, is to save those who will only listen to the Word when they see our name and blood on the ground. God didn’t promise to give those who serve Him a life free from persecution, problems or pain (John 16:33). But He gave us power to end all the attacks from the evil one and to remove those who are lost from the fire.
Although Paul and Barnabas were doing good, taking the message of heaven to the people in Konya, they witnessed the fury of the unbelieving Jews turning against them and threatening their safety. However, since they knew the importance of the work they were doing in Asia, they didn’t fear what could happen. They saw the city divided into two: some believed in the Jews and others believed in the apostles.
Jesus said: I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! (Luke 12:49). What Christ came to do wasn’t the work of politicians, who try to join with their opponents. It was a declaration of war against those who don’t understand what will lead them to perdition. This stops them from knowing the Savior’s great act on the cross. It is time for us to preach repentance and faith in Jesus with all our strength.
The gospel is definitely not for those who are ashamed, cowardly or carnal. It is destined for people who are in search of eternal joy. Those who do not announce the love of God might end up not tasting it. Why are there places in the world where the message of the Lord isn’t accepted, even when nothing is preached except a message of love? The enemy has been turning people into his slaves, and so he fights with all he has to lead them to condemnation.
The goal had been met: to lead that pagan city to division. It would be great if the inhabitants had accepted the good path. However, some preferred to remain with the Jews. Since there weren’t any saved before the apostles arrived, and many had joined their side at this point, part of the mission had been accomplished. The goal was half met. With sadness, we acknowledge that many will be lost forever!
Jesus said: For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three (Luke 12:52). You see, dissension was expected. Father would be against son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against mother. After some time serving good and fighting to give a good testimony, the church is able to save the whole family. Paul affirmed to the prison officer that his house was his blessing (Acts 16:31).
We have a lot of work ahead. This is a long battle, and we shouldn’t seek enrichment, thinking we will be here forever. It is our duty to show that there is salvation in the name of Jesus. We can’t form groups, as if life here on Earth would be forever. The Master is returning, and we must be ready to go up with Him.
In Christ, with love,

God of eternal division! The Master affirmed two groups will stand before Him when He returns. The division will be eternal, without the possibility of being modified by prayers that some will make; people will be judged when they hear the Word.
This is serious! Those of good heart will receive You with joy and love. People who don’t give You attention, even knowing that the Savior is knocking on the door and don’t open the door, will seal their condemnation. Lord have mercy on them!
May we have the capacity of saving some, rescuing them from the fire. We cannot accept that those we love will be fooled by the evil one and be lost forever. We supplicate: have mercy on the lost ones. Help us, Lord!
