11/08/2013 - THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD’S STATUTES

Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers is giving you.

Deuteronomy 4.1

In the Old Testament, God used Moses to call the attention of Israel regarding the statutes he had given to his people and the declarations about the position of the Israelites concerning all things in heavens and earth. Today the Church of the Lord Jesus is the people of God. We must promptly accept and fulfill revelation when the Almighty makes us understand any prohibition, when he tells us to do something or when he talks about who we are or what we have in Christ.

Based on Deuteronomy 4.1, when we heed what the Scriptures say, we immediately receive three great blessings: enter the land the Lord has given us, take possession of it and live in it. Those who do not heed what the Holy Spirit brings to their knowledge are missing out, and the arrows of the devil may strike them. Many Christians have been victims of attacks from Satan, and what is worse is that such people are not interested in changing their way of living. It is sad, but unfortunately they will continue to suffer.

The first reason why Israel should have listened to what the Lord was saying and act accordingly was that they would enter the Promised Land. Canaan symbolizes the kingdom of God, where we enter when we comply with the revelation of the Word. There are many Christians standing at the door of God’s house and that is why they do not enjoy comfort, prosperity, love and the other blessings to which they are entitled.

Our second incumbency is to live the Truth, this fantastic kingdom where we will be delivered from all oppression. Unfortunately, a large portion of God’s people do not truly want deliverance. Many of them are in a comfortable position, despite their problems, pains, and lack of resources, and that is why they will not enter the Storehouse of the Lord and enjoy the blessings that God has prepared for them.

Another responsibility we have is to take possession of the land; for that, we must not allow the enemy to prevent us from advancing. In fact, this cannot happen, since the Word of God declares in Hebrews 10.39a: But we are not of those who draw back to perdition. How long have you been waiting for an answer from the Lord? Isn’t it time to turn away from everything that is evil and take possession of the land – the world of God’s promises? Why be content with so little if the Lord has given you everything he has?

Our heavenly Father wants us to have a worthy, victorious and accomplished life (John 10.10). In view of that, be diligent, because those who do not become an obedient servant will never have the Lord as the true provider of their needs.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
