Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

Joshua 1:7

The Lord handed to the successor of Moses the laws that can lead everyone to success. No matter what your mission is, if you follow the divine instructions, there will be no obstacle that cannot be put down with your intervention. Joshua was told that there was no need for him to do anything, but to be strong. That was what he should do in the line of duty, because the Lord would, most assuredly, help him to do the work.

He was also told to be very courageous. Being cheerful was not enough; he would have to excel himself at this. Based on this guidance, we can infer that there will always be a devilish operation to try to hinder our success. However, hell will not be able to stop the action of the servant who is fulfilling the divine command. By following these two pieces of advice Joshua would not fail to accomplish what he was commanded to do.

Joshua could not fail to meet all the requirements of the Law of Moses. Today we no longer need to have this concern because Jesus has fulfilled them in our place. He who walks in the light of the Gospel has to follow the direction of the Holy Spirit. The Master will always teach us what should be done within the limits of God’s Word. When you fulfill His directions you put all the heavenly hosts into action and thereby you see the glory of God.

It is of paramount importance for Christians not to be fanatics, which is a deviation to the right. Those who act this way cannot walk in the Truth and therefore displease the Lord. Those who attempt to reason about the divine commands is deviating to the left and, just as the fanatic, they do not please the Father. We should not look for logic in what God speaks because we walk by faith, not by sight or feeling (II Corinthians 5:7).

Those who abide by these instructions show that they are prudent, but those who despise what the Lord says will soon realize there they were just wasting their time. So whoever you are, do not get carried away by appearances, but rather by the Lord’s voice through the reading of the Bible or the preaching of the Word. This was how the apostles were successful: they allowed the Lord to be in their midst.

Our Father knows very well what we need in order for His power to be in our midst and lead us to complete victory. If we follow His guidance, we will succeed; but if we neglect it, we will put out the lamp to our feet and the light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Whoever is guided by the Spirit of the Lord never stumbles on obstacles that are put in our way to keep us from being found faithful.

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
