24/04/2014 - THE MISTAKE OF SERVING OTHER GODS

When you have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed down to them, then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you shall perish quickly from the good land which He has given you. Joshua 23.16

If you ask any Christian if he has served other gods, the answer will be ‘no, there is only one God’. That is correct, and the Israelites knew it as well. However, as the people from other nations considered the demons to be gods and feared them, the Lord told that His people should not fear any evil being. The Israelites would be punished if they violated their covenant with the Lord.

The verse says that if the people asked any other spiritual beings for help and feared them, they would be transgressing the covenant. In that time, the other nations were mystical and worshipped the god of the rain, prosperity, fertility, and others. In some cases, people would burn their children to try to obtain the favor of a demon that they believed to be a god. Since we know that the Old Testament has demonstrations of what happens today, we should be well aware.

Why should you let fear, which is a spirit, to take hold of your heart? Now, for those who serve the Lord, there are abundant promises that nothing but His divine will will happen. Since the devil knows that those who are led by his evil threats will be punished, he invests against the people of God to fill them with fear. Those who do not pay attention to the divine commandment fall in his prey and suffer the penalty.

Many people live to fulfill the demands of the demon of prostitution, which in Greek mythology, was known as the god Eros. Eroticism has been one of the greatest attractions that make millions of people fall in the trap of Satan. There are Christians that dress to provoke the sinful desire in other people, walk in an imprudent way and have malicious eyes. These people are bowing down to this demon and serving it.

Those who are saved have not awakened yet to the fact that we live in a Good Land – the Gospel – that is the power of God. Those who believe that they are in Christ, and Christ in them, become fearless and victorious warriors. But those who still let themselves be deceived by the lies of the devil and fear what can happen to them must remember what was written in this warning. These people are not under God’s love but under His wrath.

The warning given to the Israelites was that they could die in the Good Land that had been given to them, but many did not take heed to this message and perished. In the same way, some people believe that God would never do any harm to them. But the truth is that they are not living, but perishing. Verify if you have not feared the threats of the enemy, and if this is happening, change your attitude.
