So the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob’s daughter. He was more honorable than all the household of his father. Genesis 34.19

If Shechem was Hamor’s most honorable son, imagine what the others did because their father was the ruler of the city? If this prince was used by the devil to shame God’s plan of our redemption, poor young women of the families and of good intentions of that region! The worst thing in a person’s life is to allow oneself to be led by wickedness, not knowing the Lord’s purpose for them. If there are wrong deeds, they will appear and shame them.

It doesn’t matter what you have been until now, but what you will be after temptation. Therefore, never give in to what the Scriptures condemn. Without a doubt, the devil is behind it. The Bible says: For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known (Luke 12.2). Even if your temptation is the strongest, stand firm in the Lord. One day, you will praise God for His help!

From a heedless pervert, Shechem became a lost lover and was soon willing to be circumcised. He was in a hurry, because he did not want his “brothers-in-law” to change the dowry. What was asked was the easiest because he was completely in love with the heiress of the blessing. Passion is a overwhelming feeling, which overrides morality and reason. But what could Shechem do, since his soul clung to hers? When the beginning is wrong, the end will be sad!

Now, behold, the prince was the noblest of all in his father’s house. Imagine his brothers! They must have been crazy too, the kind of people who only see the pleasure they will feel, but don’t think about the pain and shame that will accompany the one who has the misfortune to cross their path. There are many wicked individuals; some delight in talking about the wrong they have done. Why act this way?

There are demons sent to various parts of the world to look after the devil’s interests. In some families, there will always be those who kill themselves for futile reasons, or enjoy prostitution and other iniquities – drugs, theft, etc. Many people experience sexual abuse, humiliation and other embarrassments in their own home. Their problem is spiritual!

How long would Shechem’s passion for Dinah last? Was it something from God or from the devil that made the prince abuse Jacob’s daughter? Without a doubt, it was the devil’s! Anyone who does not accept himself just as he came into the world will forever be a frustrated person. Man was created in the image and likeness of the Lord; therefore, we have to respect the one born female, because she is also the image and likeness of the Most High (Genesis 1.27). It’s a complete mistake to abuse someone!

The young man’s haste must have pleased Dinah’s brothers. Shechem showed that he didn’t even suspect what would happen to him, his father and the other men of the place. There is nothing better than knowing the Word of the Lord and obeying it, something that the Hivites did not do and, therefore, sinned in every way (Proverbs 19.2). In short: God’s servant does not sin!

In Christ, with love,

Lord, our Master and Friend! We thank You, because You have delivered us from the hand of the enemy. Without You, we would have fallen into bonds that would bring us sorrow, pain and submission to the evil one, and that we could not bear. Only You can love us in such a way!

We are very innocent, though we think we are wise. Why give ourselves over to sin if we will come out of Your presence? Now, we can never look for trouble. We must seek You, for You are the Source of all good. We are grateful for Your infinite love and Your help!

Not everything we like comes from You, especially when we know Your Word. We offer our hearts to You, that You may deliver us from temptations and the works of the evil kingdom. Amen!
