Then David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the LORD God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me!

I Samuel 25: 32

There are some things that get us upset and they lure us into making a decision of executing vengeance. Nabal not only refused to meet David’s request but he also humiliated him before his men. The warrior of God had made a decision in his heart which would end up causing the death of that man, the same one who did not help him when he needed it, even though Nabal knew that David and the men under his command had previously protected his servants and assets. At that point nothing wrong would have happened to David if he had exterminated that prosperous rancher with an evil heart. However, a woman’s intercession changed that story.

Abigail, Nabal’s wife, as she was briefed about the latest happenings, picked up some bread, and some seasoned lambs, some raisins and some other cooking elements and went towards David. When she met him she did not use any human luring words to get out of that servant of God’s heart his intention of vengeance. But, showing herself as a truly servant of the Lord, she prophesied for the pastor of Israel. Thus, David answered the request of Abigail who, afterwards, became his wife. You don’t know what might occur to you whenever you let yourself be used by God. Its reward will come in the same proportion in which you are committed with the Lord.

You must always pay attention to that person the Most High sends to you, they might be someone in need of your help or they might bring you a blessing. You must be aware that, all the time, your garment must be white and your thoughts holy (Ecclesiastes 9:8). The promptness of the heart of those who serve the Lord needs to be the one which listens to the Holy Spirit of God. Our Father might use someone to give you a reprimand, to open up your eyes regarding some of His promises to you or to give you some guidance regarding some business. Be a servant of God at all times!

As David recognized that The Lord was The One who had sent Abigail to meet him, he changed his mind. Those who serve Him will never go on to do something if they feel a warning from the Heavens is signaling they’re to do quite the opposite. It’s not wrong to ask for forgiveness, for instance, to recognize your mistake and the fact that you were overwhelmed by some uncontrolled emotions. The best thing to do is to always bow down before the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

If you’ll always be a servant of God you will see that He will always be your Lord, and you’ll be able to dodge all those unpleasant things that might come up in your life. Those who have the Most High controlling their lives will never stop following His holy bits of counseling and – for that very reason – they will never be used by the spirit of disobedience.

In Christ, with love,
