“Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ” (II Peter 1: 1)
Simon, bondservant and apostle of Jesus, had the same precious faith we can have today. In fact, our faith operates in us the same way it did in the lives of the heroes of God, in the past.
Peter achieved the greatest title a man can have: a servant of Christ. He who was granted the ministry of an apostle states that we can have the same faith; after all, the Most High doesn’t have several types of faith to grant His children. There isn’t the slightest possibility for Him to offer a weak faith to some and a strong one to others. Well, faith is always the same for all those who are called up to become members of the divine family! Yet, our attitudes regarding the faith we are granted are what makes all the difference.
We mustn’t only say we’re servants of God, but live that privilege as well. The greatest gift we’re given is to serve our Creator and our absolute Lord of the whole universe all manners because we’ll be working in His Name and with His power being operated in us and also in our favour wherever He sends us to do His work. This way, we’ll never be defeated by the enemy.
According to Peter, we received a precious faith because the Lord put in it all that we might need. That means we mustn’t think we’ve been granted a weak faith; on the contrary, all the divine capacity is within it. So, my brother, regardless the kind of battle you might be fighting, don’t let Satan deceive you and never say you’re not qualified to do the will of our Father.
The servants of God were bold enough to believe that they had received a powerful faith to make them victorious at the time when the Bible was being written and they paid no notice to our opponent’s hints. Those wise servants stood out as they used their faith and were victorious in all battles they had to fight; they
performed a myriad of wonders such as, for instance, to make the fire’s burning capacity powerless. (Daniel 6).
All this happens through Jesus’ righteousness: He was rewarded with all authority from the Heavens and Earth (Matthew 28. 18) for giving Himself to suffer for our sins and to pay for our guilt by pouring His blood in order for us to be granted justification and salvation. Peter wasn’t looking down on our Father when he called Jesus as our Saviour and God, for they are all One.
The Lord expects all of His servants to behave today like those in the past: they didn’t pay heed to the circumstances which were very unfavourable many times, but they trusted the Most High wouldn’t put them to shame. Those heroes of faith were audacious, determined and brave and those who are also bold to believe in what the Lord states in His Word will see, my brother, that He’s as mighty now as He was in the biblical times.
In Christ, with love,
R. R. Soares
