So Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.

Exodus 18: 17

Since the Lord guided Moses in all things why didn’t He tell Moses to do what Jethro was advising him to do? I can assure you that God actually did it, but we’re not always ready to fully understand what He says. As a result, we end up striving too hard and achieving little. We must heed other people’s advice because in so doing we’ll succeed.

Don’t ever blame the Most High for your own errors and unnecessary work. The moment you understand what He’s giving you the next step is to accept it readily and abide strictly by the biblical admonitions. Moses was greatly assisted by our God but because he wasn’t perfect he might have missed out on many blessings in certain areas of his life. Nonetheless I, by no means, intend to diminish the importance of that mighty servant of God.

The right thing to do is to humble ourselves to hear what other people have to say, which oftentimes turns out to be a wonderful message from the Heavens. However, if the message they want to convey to you has no biblical basis, you should reject it. The Lord is perfect at guiding His children so we need nothing that doesn’t come from Him. Those who receive a heavenly counsel and put it into practice not only achieve success but also cause the Creator to rejoice.

Undoubtedly, there must be lots of activities that we do unnecessarily and that consume the time, energy and ability that could otherwise be employed in the Kingdom of God. So it’s advisable that you examine how you use your time and apply your resources, making sure all is done under the Father’s guidance. Life is too short on Earth so we’d better not waste the opportunities offered to us.

What is done in excess is worthless because we should only do what has been assigned to us according to the direction of the Most High. Extra activities deprive us of time and energy for leisure and other pleasant things. The wise in heart please the Lord and therefore they are worthy of their reward. Doing more than what’s been asked from us will not finish the divine work. So all we have to do is to accomplish our mission with the tools that haven given to us.

It’s perfectly possible to believe that Jethro’s advice to Moses came from God. Had he been proud and ignored his father-in-law, he’d have worked to exhaustion and probably he wouldn’t have accomplished his mission in a satisfactory and productive way. Therefore, pay careful heed to everything you’re told and if you really feel that’s coming from the Lord – since He does speak directly and indirectly to His children – you must believe and take possession of it and then your action power will be intensified.

Besides, learning to multiply your work is something of great value – that’s what the men who were used by the Lord did in the past by establishing their schools of prophets and dramatically multiplying the mission they’d been appointed to. Our Lord Jesus did the same: He trained His disciples and sent them to those places He was going to visit later on. Therefore, imitate our Master and accomplish the mission assigned to you by Him.
