Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.”

Jeremiah 1.9

The prophet Jeremiah, although formed by the Creator, still needed God’s touch to be able to undertake and carry out the mission with which the Lord had entrusted him. God did not refrain from convicting the prophet of sin, putting forth his hand, touching his mouth and saying that he had put his words in his mouth (Jeremiah 1.5-7,9).

Every person must seek God in order to get ready for his work. The first act of our spiritual preparation takes place when the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin (Romans 3.23-24). He who does not admit being a sinner, and joins the body of Christ nevertheless, ends up bringing world practices to the church, and causing shame. Instead of being a blessing to the church, this person becomes a curse. What is even worse: other people may follow his bad example, and the work of the Lord is jeopardized.

When the Lord puts forth his hand, he delivers us from the power of darkness. He who truly repents from his sins and accepts Jesus as his Savior is conveyed into the kingdom of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 1.13). Then, as a new creation, he starts to learn the ways of God. By believing in the revelations given through the Scriptures, the new convert is strengthened and prepared to assume his position in Christ. So this is the goal that every Christian must pursue.

The touch of the Lord in our mouth enables us to carry out our mission through statements we make during affliction and trials, as well as through opportunities the Lord gives us and his promises to us. God’s touch also cleanses us from the filth of the world, which makes people say so many negative and depreciative words. It further enables us to become preachers of the truth.

We must heed what the Lord declares, because it is through the voice that comes out of his lips that we are able to withstand the attacks of the devil. He puts his words into our mouth, and then, in the ministry he gave us, we are able to carry out the work to which we have been called. When we are authorized by the Lord, we do not need to be afraid of those to whom we will deliver his message (Jeremiah 1.8).

Then all we need to do is to move forward and fulfill our call. We have been delivered from the power of darkness to be light in the world, and it is our job to keep our light shinning. So, do not get involved with worldly things, because they are not compatible with the kingdom of God. Success lies in full obedience to God’s commandments.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
