“Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
Zechariah 1:5
The Lord gives all people in all generations the opportunity to know Him. The uneasiness that arises in everyone’s heart is one of the ways through which He shows that life is not just about having abundance of goods or other material things with no power to give human beings a sense of accomplishment. To be born again and, at the same time, to be a disciple of Jesus are the stances that will certainly cause men to enjoy peace, to be sure of their salvation, and therefore, to be complete.
When our sojourn in this world comes to an end, there will be no chance for man to know the Creator and make amends with Him. Those who resist the divine voice will cry throughout eternity in despair but will find no solace. Therefore, this is the right time for man to get rid of sin – with which we are all born – and then go through the new birth. In this way eternal salvation is assured (John 3:3).
On the other hand, those who go through life in hardship, suffering from deprivation of everything are actually to blame for all these things because they have not heeded the Gospel – which is the Good News of what Jesus has done for us in His death. If only you acted differently, you would find out that our God wants us to eat the good of the land because He wants the best for us. In His Word, the Lord declares He has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant (Psalm 35:27).
The Lord sent His prophets to open His people’s eyes, but many did not want to hear them. The message was of conversion – change of direction, thoughts and works, – but many preferred to do as they saw fit. They went through life without the help of the Creator. Undoubtedly they could have had a better fate and lived in better conditions if they had not closed the door to the divine operations.
To be a churchgoer, attend services and wait for better days is not enough. You have to do your part. You need to hear the Word of God and fulfill the divine order fearlessly. Whatever God shows you in the Scriptures becomes a commandment, so those who keep it will find out how easy it is to abide by them. The rebels, however, will never see the light.
Ponder on the actions of your parents, both the biological and also those who you have adopted as tutors or mentors. They had the opportunity to do what the Word told them to. Now, all they have left is the Judgment. Mend your ways now so that when your time comes, you can leave for a life that is infinitely better.
