14/09/2016 - THREE GOOD ATTITUDES

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.  Psalm 143.5

David summed up the best attitudes that everyone must have in three phrases. He had no other source of information about God’s things except for the sacred writings of that time, and although the revelation had not been completed yet, what was found in these writings was enough for him to guide his life. It is true that David was also used as a prophet in the Psalms he wrote and in his decisions and that is why he was a man after God’s own heart.

He remembered the days of old, in which the Lord acted on his behalf and saved generations from all sorts of dangers. Since God does not discriminate people, David knew that he could count on God’s help and, when he fought for Israel, even before becoming king, he was totally aware that he was merely an instrument in God’s hands to bring victory to his people. When David became king, he had no doubt that the Lord was fighting for them.

To remember the old days will strengthen your faith, after all the Lord, for being good, has helped not just one generation. Now, if David’s heart had not remained steadfast in the belief that God never works more on behalf of someone rather than the other person, he could have become discouraged. What the Almighty did in Israel he will do in other parts of the world, because he will never fail to fulfill his Word on behalf of those who plead with him.

David meditated on all God’s works, and it is good that everyone does the same. Instead of remembering our failures, or the days when we prayed but received no answer, thus carrying bitterness in our hearts, let’s follow the example of the psalmist, as he had the Lord working on his behalf and went on to carry out God’s works. When you consider all the facts, faith will arise in your innermost being and you will take possession of your blessing.

Consider the story of Barak. Deborah revealed to him that God had ordered him to bring to Mount Tabor a large number of people and take ten thousand men from Naphtali and Zebulun. The Almighty had promised that he would deploy Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude at the River Kishon, and that he would deliver him into Barak’s hand (Judges 4.4-7). When you think about that, you will be inspired and then will be called to do a great work for the Lord.

Many examples in the Bible will inspire those who study God’s accomplishments in the old days and meditate on them. He continues carrying out the same works in each generation. Those who were used by the Lord were just as human as we are; as a matter of fact, they allowed God to use them, therefore brought freedom to their people. The Father will act in a similar way towards all those who, once they are called, are not intimidated and chicken out.

Consider God’s works. Try to see what you would do if you were invited to lead his work today. The same way as the Lord used Peter, he wants you to be an instrument in his hands. He who is called must not be shy, because when the Almighty speaks to one of his servants, he has already prepared all that is necessary for him to fight his battle.

In Christ, with love,

Unchangeable God, we need to remember what you did in the past, your works recorded in the Bible, because besides being true and doing us good, this will bring lessons to those who love you and are willing to do your will. May all those who are called by you come forth, Lord!

According to what we read, Barack was shaken. This teaches us that he was just as human as we are, therefore he leaned on the experience and faith of Deborah, the judge. However, when he heard that she would come with him, he climbed mount Tabor and chose ten thousand soldiers that you gave him. You are amazing in your choices!

What is your plan for us? Are you calling us to seek material prosperity or to help you carry out your works? Who are these governors who forbid people from calling on You in the land they occupy, if the entire world belongs to you?
