And David stayed in strongholds in the wilderness, and remained in the mountains in the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.

I Samuel 23: 14

David had done nothing to deserve Saul’s wrath but it was his calling from The Lord God which caused him to be persecuted by that king and with a quite fatal hatred. My brother, you mustn’t be appalled if you’re being subjected to similar persecutions as well, either at work, in your family or even at church; after all, all those who are determined to strictly live their lives in Christ will suffer persecution.

The chosen ones must be warned about the fact that there’s a price to pay for the mission assigned to them. It’s true that we have the promise by The Lord to be delivered from numerous evil machinations – and we won’t be aware of many of those – but the truth is that there are still some hindrances we’ll have to face. Therefore, in case you’re going through some troubled times now, do not get desperate or upset and you shouldn’t go moaning either. David being instructed not to remain in Keilah – the town which his adversary was heading to – fled with no determined direction.

In fact, that servant of The Lord was directed by The Most High all the way up to the desert of Ziph for a hiding and safe place. And He’ll do the same for you! There will always be someone around to give you the warning and tell you where to go. After all, God hasn’t lost His powers, particularly the one to take us into quiet and peaceful places – into the wilderness sometimes. Very often, I was persecuted by that very person who should have stretched their hand out to help me – the one who should have remained being my friend; yet, it was The Heavenly Father who took care of my life instead and He didn’t allow a single one of my hairs to fall off without His determination.

Those who are blessed by The Most High with any mission must be ready to pay the price. The Lord won’t let them fall; instead He’ll fulfil His promises for them. Therefore, keep on going ahead even though it seems you’re heading to no specific direction. And when all the trouble is gone people will see that it was indeed God guiding you. Even though the enemy might seem powerful and determined to get rid of your life you must know that he’s actually powerless and already defeated since it’s your Father who protects you.

Our God will be a wall of fire round us (Zechariah 2:5) and however the devil might strive to exterminate us from the face of the earth he will never succeed. Saul set out along with three thousand men in search of David but he never managed to touch the anointed one of The Lord. And the same protection is offered to us considering that our God is our Refuge and our Fortress and He’ll always be so, our very Help present in all tribulations (Psalm 91: 2).

The writings in The Bibles are utterly significant: The Most High did not deliver David into Saul’s hands. However the latter had strived The Almighty did protect His servant from the enemy’s hands. And the same will happen to all those who are really children of God. Yet, The Lord can only be a Father to His children, nobody else. That means that when we assume our affiliation He will also assume His fatherhood towards us.

It’s really worth being faithful by accomplishing our mission because provided we have The Lord with us the devil will never be able to entangle us. However much machination the latter might come up with The Most High will wrap us up and He’ll keep us in a safe place.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
