Has a nation changed its gods, which are not gods? But My people have changed their Glory for what does not profit.  Be astonished, O heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid; Be very desolate,” says the LORD. “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Jeremiah 2:11-13

Oftentimes, not even among the lost – those who are dominated by false gods and, as a result, live in complete abandonment and suffering – we hear that they have done what many of those who had the privilege of knowing the true God are doing: changing the Lord for Satan’s lies. There are people who start out well, but then the flesh speaks louder and they end up indulging in sin and vanity.

How can someone change the fountain of living waters for broken cisterns that can hold no water? Look back and remember what the Lord has done for you after your conversion. The devil is the enemy of God’s people and always tempts the saved with the most different kinds of offerings. Examine yourself to see if you have not fallen in the traps of the evil one and whether you are steadfast in faith or lost in error.

Changing the glory of God for what does not profit is to make a double mistake. Without the divine glory you are nothing, even if you thrive, receive honors or decide to be the person that God has not called you to be. You see, the world will pass, but only those who do the will of the Father shall remain forever. The divine command is: do not love the world or the things in the world. (I John 2:15).

The cisterns that man hews are broken because they cannot hold his dreams; however, the fountain of living waters can cleanse him. So, go back to your first love and do not let death – the nature of Satan – dominate you. Be what God has called you to be and seek to have what He wants to give you. The curse should never be in your hands. Go back to being dependent on God, as in the beginning.

The heavenly power is astonished, appalled and distressed by the folly of many children of God. The Lord’s angels feel this way because they cannot act in favor of these people anymore; they know what hell will do to anyone who turns away from the Lord. Besides, the celestial beings are aware that due to those people’s sins they can do nothing. Do not let the Heavens be sad about what you have done; reestablish your communion with the Most High now.

If you have allowed the flesh to exert power over your life of faith, it is a sign that you are back to the pigsty you had left before. Do not despise the fountain of living waters, for in Him there is what you need to avoid being lost forever. Do not do any more evil. The waters of that Fountain have power to heal, purify and bring you back to the arms of the Almighty God. He is your true consolation!
