“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord, “who take counsel, but not of Me, and who devise plans, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin! Isaiah 30.1

Serving God is more than obeying a Biblical list of do’s and don’ts. We ought to follow His commands to the letter, no doubt about it. The verse of our message today highlights that it is very important to seek the Lord to know what we ought to say and do. If we don’t do so, we displease Him.

Failing to seek the Lord’s counsel is considered rebellion. Now, since we have become His servants, He wants to guide us in all our decisions. This shows us how much the One who knows all things cares for His sons. Why choose to be rebellious and stay under the curse, when the best is to be obedient and stay under the blessings of the Most High? Obedience is, by far, a much better way.

Because God is omniscient we can look to Him for guidance concerning anything because, in every situation, He wants to give us the best. Human counsel, on the other hand, may even seem logical and the person who gives it to you may have good intentions, but that does not mean that this will help you out of a crisis. The natural man can only see what is before his eyes, but not the true meaning of things (1Corinthians 2.14).

The Lord speaks of being under someone’s authority. Why would we submit ourselves to something that cannot give us protection? God alone is our Protection; without Him, we have a false sense of security. However, if we are under the Heavenly sovereignty, nothing, absolutely nothing, shall befall us. We are secure because we are guarded by the Most High (Psalms 91).

The Holy Spirit is the other Counselor Jesus has promised us (John 14.16). He not only guides us to all truth and teaches us, but He also defends us from the attacks of the enemy. When we remain under His protection, not even false doctrines will befall us, because, as soon as they come, He will help us understand that it is the work of the deceiver.

Those who give themselves over to religious promises are in sin. Everything that rises up to take the place of the Scriptures, or the Holy Spirit, comes from the evil one. It may even seem innocent, but deep down it is filled with Satan’s craftiness. Flee from all that comes from him.

Religious precepts are false paths that drag the unwise to the arms of the genius of evil. You do good if you stay away from this huge pile of lies. Those who follow these things will add sin to the sins that had not yet been removed from them.

In Christ, with love,

Dr. Soares

Most Holy God and Father! We need not seek counsel of anyone else, because You alone have that which really guides us. You words are our consolation and our security. With them we are safe against the enemy's snares.

Why seek for shelter where there is no protection? And this is why we ask You to keep us from being trapped by the lies of the enemy. Have mercy on those who are not under Your wings.

Religious precepts cannot lure us away. Even when we falter, we must not go after them. We need Your protection to be steadfast in You love. And so we can claim that no evil will befall us.
