Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.

Ruth 1:14

One person is different from the other by the way they think. Although Orpah loved her mother-in-law and wept for her, she did not show as much love as Ruth did. Undoubtedly there are many people who truly love us but sometimes their own interests speak louder. Some people would like to see the lost surrendering themselves to the Savior, but if the Lord God calls them to the mission field, they will say no.

It is amazing to see how people are fooled by what the world offers! When she realized that Ruth had made the best decision, Orpah probably regretted it for eternity. Later, Ruth became the grandmother of King David and an ancestor of God’s Son. She gave up what seemed to be her happiness, but the Lord knew how to reward her. So shall it be with all who love God more than their family, their projects and other things: the Lord will give them the crown of life (Revelation 2:10).

There is no use in lifting up your voice in prayer and cry, telling the Lord you love Him above all things; what matters is to prove you truly love Him. Ruth clung to Naomi for she was sensitive to God’s love. Be sure to cling to the Almighty and do what pleases Him. He who serves Him wholeheartedly will know how advantageous it is to fulfill God’s will. No one will ever regret trusting in the Lord.

Orpah was not bad, but carnal; and people like her do not advance in faith. When everything goes well, they are on the Lord’s side, but if the situation reverses and a crisis arise, they leave aside the One who can help them and start seeking other things. What a shame! We are not like some animals that are always looking for a worm to feed on. We are beings to whom the Lord intended the Kingdom!

Ruth said: Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die (Ruth 1:16b-17a). What a trust in Naomi’s God! What a vision of the Most High’s power she had! By following an elderly woman, that daughter-in-law did not think about her youth, which could be wasted. Those who cling to natural things obtain nothing from the Creator. How many were called to do a great work, but have not achieved anything today? If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him (I John 2:15b).

If you decide to obey the Lord, you will prove that you had a much higher profit than those who cowered and did not meet the ordinance they were given. The heavenly Father calls us, invites us, equips and sends us; but many will find something “more important” to do than believing in the Word of God and as a result they miss a great chance in their life.

In Christ with Love,
