For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.

John 7:4

The brothers of the Lord Jesus once gave Him some uninspired advice. We must be careful when heeding what our friends, relatives and even preachers say; after all, in many occasions people are not in spirit when they try to help us. Actually, this is very serious because many among those who advise us are being used by the enemy to harm us. If we believe that their words are answers from God we will end up making decisions that might lead us to suffer irreparable damage.

Counselor is one of Jesus Christ’s names (Isaiah 9:6). As the Lord knows all things and loves us, He is the only one who can give us advice. Only our Father is prudent, wise and true. So do not accept what someone says to you unless you are sure that it was the Lord who revealed it. The human mind, which is very fast, is able to think and find solutions in a frightening speed but what we think – or the solution we find – does not always comes from the One who knows all things. If we are in spirit, we will know through the Scriptures what decision to make in any situation.

Another important fact is that when the Lord in His wisdom directs us and speaks to us directly or through someone, our hearts understand. In fact, we will always feel peace and joy while He is guiding our lives. Therefore, if a thought or a revelation leaves us confused, we must reject them because the Bible declares that the Almighty is not the author of confusion (I Corinthians 14:33).

He who is sent by God says what comes from Him. It is easy to notice whether someone is strong in faith or is not based on what He speaks. The servant of the Lord may talk about sports, politics, philosophy or business, but at some point he will say something relevant to the Scriptures. Whoever does not speak according to what the Lord says does not know Him or is weak in faith; therefore their counsel is not good for us.

If you are serving the Lord, ask Him to direct your life. If parents take pleasure in giving proper guidance to their children, how much more will our heavenly Father (Luke 11:13)! So do not be afraid to ask Him for help, because the Lord has told us to ask about things to come.

God\’s children should note this fact: under divine inspiration, we speak as the Lord would speak in our place, we see how He would see and we act the same way He would. So, why not seek His anointing?

In Christ with love,
