He who destroys has come up before your face. Man the fort! Watch the road! Strengthen your flanks! Fortify your power mightily. Nahum 2.1

This instruction was given to the city of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. In the same way, when someone uses the Word to speak to your heart, it becomes an important message for your life. The Lord expects His children to be prudent, to make good use of His revelations, and avoid the diabolic plans against them from happening. The purpose of warning you is so that you avoid distressful moments.

On the other hand, when the destroyer comes before a child of God, this does not mean that he will accomplish his objectives. The prudent servant will be cautious to prepare himself so that he resists and defeats the attacks. The only thing that is required is that this servant puts into action the heavenly power that has been dispensed, using the name of Jesus. Success is certain and real, for it is written that the gates of hell will not prevail against the saved ones (Mt 16.18).

Concerning the instructions that we are studying, one that is most important is to “man the fort” – the understanding that the Holy Spirit gives you. This means that you should seek communion with the Counselor and not leave Him aside as if He were irrelevant. Those who do not seek the second person of the Holy Trinity do not enjoy His marvelous power when in times of need.

Every revelation that is given to you is a new living and open way, so that through it, you may come closer to God. Therefore, keep this way, meditating on what it represents, and on how you may walk on it. Forgetting the revelation that was given to you is a great mistake. A path that is not cultivated allows the growth of grass and bushes, which serve as home for poisonous and dangerous animals.

Our capacity to support burdens – our spiritual loins – must be reinforced, so that we may endure the weight of the fight. The weak will be discouraged, for they will consider the amount of sacrifice that is needed to be equipped for battle. However, those who are strengthened will not be tired of fighting with all their forces in order to make the enemy retreat and obtain victory.

The power that we receive by the baptism of the Holy Spirit must be fortified. This will happen through reading and meditating on the Word, examining well what is revealed to you. Now, the more we understand of our position in the spiritual world, the more prepared we are for battle. This is indispensable for us to win our battles, and most importantly, to please God. Therefore, strive to fortify your power.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
